Women’s ice hockey blanks Colgate, 4-0

Just less than three weeks ago, Colgate handed the women’s ice hockey team its first two-loss weekend of the season, defeating the Bobcats 2-1 in overtime in Hamden, Conn. But the Bobcats returned the favor Friday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y., shutting out the Raiders 4-0.

Amanda Colin led the way for the Bobcats (9-5-1, 4-4 ECAC), scoring her first two goals of her career while Victoria Vigilanti stopped all 27 Raider shots.

After a scoreless first period, Jordan Elkins got the Bobcats on the board just 2:25 into the second. With the Bobcats on the power play, Elkins fired a slap shot off the crossbar and into the net for her second goal of the season.

Just 16 seconds later, Colin netted her first career goal after Colgate (4-9, 1-4 ECAC) goalie Kimberly Sass left a rebound at Colin’s feet.

The score remained 2-0 until the third period, when the Bobcats struck twice more. Regan Bolton expanded the Bobcats lead to three 4:39 into the period. Colin sealed the win with her second of the game with just fewer than 10 minutes left in the game.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities to score, as both teams had six power plays. But it was the Bobcats who cashed in, going two for six on the power play, while killing all six of their penalties.

Kelly Babstock failed to record a point and now trails Wisconsin’s Hilary Knight and Ohio State’s Natalie Spooner by one for the nation’s lead in goals. But she still holds the top spot for points. Ohio State was still playing Minnesota Duluth at time of publication.

The win advanced the Bobcats to fourth in the ECAC standings.
