Former men’s ice hockey captain Zach Metsa ‘23 has been called up to the Buffalo Sabers Thursday afternoon.
“We have recalled Zach Metsa from @AmerksHockey,” the Buffalo Sabers posted on X.
Metsa served as captain of Quinnipiac’s National Championship team during the 2022-23 season, where he recorded 37 points on nine goals and 28 assists.
The defenseman has played two seasons for the Rochester Americans, in his first season recording seven goals and 17 assists. Last season, the Delafield, Wisconsin native played 69 games for the Americans, tallying seven goals and 39 assists.
During his time as a Bobcat, Metsa was awarded multiple times, including being named to the ECAC Hockey First Team two times, ECAC Player of the Week and ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman. In his graduate year, Metsa tied for sixth nationally amongst defensemen in assists per game, according to Quinnipiac Athletics.
Metsa is one of the few Bobcats from the National Championship team playing professionally. These Bobcats include right-winger Colin Graf with the San Jose Sharks for two seasons, center Skylar Brind’amour, who played two games for the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2024-25 season and defenseman Charles Alexis Legault, who is rostered with the Carolina Hurricanes for the 2025-26 season.
