Amarri Monroe is returning to the Quinnipiac men’s basketball program for his senior season, the reigning MAAC Player of the Year announced Saturday.
The junior forward entered the transfer portal following the team’s loss to Iona in the MAAC Semifinals on March 14. But after a few weeks in the portal and serious interest from teams including UConn, Miami, Ole Miss, Kansas and Rutgers, Monroe has decided to stay in Hamden.
“I came back because of my love for this program, this team, this community, it’s more than basketball to me,” Monroe wrote. “They gave me a home when everyone forgot about me. I’m sticking with the people who helped me find myself again.”
Monroe averaged 18.1 points and nine rebounds en route to leading the Bobcats to a second consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship. The Newburgh, New York native will be a leading candidate for preseason player of the year this fall.
