UPDATE: Quenneville leaves university for WHL

Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey freshman Peter Quenneville is leaving the university to play for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey league, Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold announced Tuesday.

Quenneville, a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, was a member of a highly-touted freshman class that includes Sam Anas, Connor Clifton and Devon Toews, among others.

“We wish Peter all the best as he moves on,” Pecknold said in a press release. “Peter wants to focus only on hockey and here at Quinnipiac University our players are committed to excellence in both hockey and academics.”

He recorded four assists in five games for the No. 5 Bobcats this season. He last donned a Bobcat jersey in the team’s Oct. 22 victory vs. Bentley, when he registered two assists.

Quenneville scored 33 goals and recorded 37 assists for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL last season. His brother, John, is a member of the Wheat Kings and has recorded eight goals and nine assists in 18 games.

Quinnipiac is currently 8-1-0 on its season.
