Quinnipiac softball is already planning ahead as it prepares for the upcoming season.
The future seems to be on the minds of the coaching staff as recruitment season is in the air in Hamden.
Averill Park Golden Knights pitcher Abigail Colwill verbally committed to Quinnipiac, posting a statement on X.
“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Quinnipiac University,” Colwill wrote. “I am so grateful to be able to continue my dreams to play Division I Softball… GO BOBCATS!!!”
Colwill started her high school career with 15 hits, 17 RBI and 12 runs as a hitter, according to MaxPreps.
Colwill started playing softball at nine years old, according to her written statement. And despite not being eligible to play for Quinnipiac until the 2026 season, it shows that the coaching staff is confident in her enough to get her commitment early.
“A special thanks to all of my teammates,” Colwill said. “For countless memories and support throughout the years.”
The New York native has been a two-sport athlete during her time as a Golden Knight, suiting up for not only softball but the women’s basketball program as well.
The pitcher is the first to verbally commit to Quinnipiac softball during the current recruitment cycle.
Colwill is set to be a part of the class of 2030, and if her commitment goes past the verbal stage, she will set foot in Hamden during the 2026-27 season.
