Sparked by a dominating 22-point and 13-rebound performance by senior center Courtney Kaminski, the Quinnipiac women’s basketball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 68-51, Saturday afternoon.
The critical win on the last day of the regular season earned the Bobcats (12-17, 7-11 NEC) a spot in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament. Quinnipiac will be the No. 7 seed and will travel to Loretta, Pa., next Saturday to take on the No. 2 Long Island Blackbirds.
“It’s good to be in a position to control your own fate and we did that today,” Quinnipiac head coach Tricia Fabbri said.”
Rebounding was the difference in the game, as the Bobcats won this category by a decisive margin of 56-32. No one was more proficient in this area than junior forward Lailah Pratt, who pulled down 14 boards on the afternoon. Coach Fabbri appreciated Pratt’s strong overall performance.
“(Lailah Pratt) was an absolute beast today in the most complimentary way,” Fabbri said.
Both teams struggled to shoot the ball, but the Bobcats converted on 7-of-17 3-point shots they attempted. This compared to an FDU team that went a putrid 5-for-21 from behind the arc.
Quinnipiac will tip off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday against LIU in the first round of the NEC Tournament.
