Quinnipiac men’s basketball head coach Tom Moore, and Quinnipiac women’s head coach Tricia Fabbri, gave their thanks and outlooks on the approaching season at the teams’ Basketball Media Night.
The evening, included words from Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald, regarding television air time and Northeast Conference Commissioner Doreen Thomas. Each coach presented their thoughts on their upcoming games and challenges the teams will face, while Thomas expressed her thoughts and praise on Quinnipiac athletics and the facilities.
With the women’s team pulling in a No. 1 preseason ranking, Fabbri said the team feels no pressure.
“The pressures are handling our expectations. It doesn’t really amount to anything, we’ve got a whole season to play,” Fabbri said.
This season Fabbri expects captains Gillian “Boo” Abshire, Shelby Sferra and Jasmine Martin to step up. With a year under their belts, coach believes things will be different than last year when they fell apart in the NEC tournament.
“We didn’t finish out the season quite as we have hoped,” Fabbri said. “I think we changed a little bit with that expectation, we were young and it was rolling and when the light really shined on us, we didn’t handle it well.”
On the men’s side, Moore explained that despite a No. 4 preseason ranking, he expects the team to hang in there when it comes to NEC tournament time. Ike Azotam and Zaid Hearst accompanied Moore on the evening, while he explained how he expects the most from the two this season.
Azotam collected preseason honors while Moore expects Hearst to become the most improved player.
McDonald released information about which games will be on-air for viewing pleasures. At least 15 games will be found on television whether through, NESN, Fox College Sports, SNY, MSG, ESPN3, Cox Sports, Fox Sports North and NBCSports.
The first game to be televised for the men’s team will be this Saturday’s away matchup against Hartford at 3 p.m. on SNY. For the women, their home game against Holy Cross on Dec. 8, will be televised on NESN.
