The Quinnipiac men’s basketball team finally had its full roster back on Lender Court at TD Bank Sports Center Saturday against Navy, and showed all its fans what exactly the players are capable of doing by defeating Navy in a 78-54 rout.
James Johnson led the charge, scoring 18 points for the Bobcats, while Ike Azotam recorded his third double-double in as many games, with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Nate Gause also chipped in with 13 points off the bench.
Garvey Young, a transfer from Vermont, made his debut, shooting 1-for-7 from the field but defensively contributed with three of the Bobcats’ eight steals.
“It was good to have him get his feet wet,” Quinnipiac head coach Tom Moore said. “He’s been a mystery man because he’s been here for so long and people have been waiting to see him play. He’s a good defender and when he makes a gamble for a steal he picks and chooses a good spot for it.”
The Bobcats took control of the game early, jumping out to a 16-3 lead after the first 5:14 of the game and never saw Navy reach back within nine points. Johnson scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half, leading the team to a 37-18 halftime lead.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday when they visit American at 7:30 p.m.
