The Quinnipiac men’s hockey team held off a late third period comeback as it defeated Bentley for a 3-2 victory at the TD Bank Sports Center.

The Jones brothers, Connor and Kellen, each had two points for the Bobcats (2-1-0). Connor had a goal and an assist, while Kellen had two assists.

Clay Harvey put the Bobcats up early with a quick goal 1:04 into the game, but it wasn’t until the second period where the Jones brothers made their impact.

Four-and-a-half minutes into the second period the Jones’ had a two-on-one and Kellen found his brother Connor who ripped a laser into the top right-hand corner of the net to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead, and his first collegiate career goal.

“Me and Kellen have done that play a couple million times so I knew he was going to give it to me and I opened up and tried to put it in the net as hard as I could,” Connor said.

Later in the period, sophomore Russell Goodman scored while the Jones brothers each had an assist on the play to extend the lead to 3-0.

Bentley (0-1-0) did not give up though, as they battled their way back in the third period to close within one goal after defenseman Mike Switzer hit a power play goal to make it 3-2.

Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold called a time out to settle his team down.

“I just thought we needed to catch our legs and told them to be more aggressive, go down to try and score a goal and be smart defensively,” Pecknold said.

Quinnipiac continues its non-conference schedule when they host Holy Cross at the TD Bank Sports Center next Saturday at 7 p.m.
