Quinnipiac University students are left confused due to fake rising-sophomore housing changes and rumors circulating around the student body Monday night.
The Commons Residence Hall will house both first-year and sophomore students starting fall 2025, according to the change on the Housing website — or at least everyone thought so.
A screenshot of a fake email started to circulate the popular college anonymous social media site YikYak, alleging that Commons will now house both first-years, alongside 25+ rooms of sophomores.
The Commons contains 113 rooms, each housing four students in one room, with communal bathrooms in the hallways. All of the other options listed for rising sophomores are mostly double rooms, with the exception of single rooms in The Complex and the newly established triple rooms in The Village Residence Halls.
The fake email also stated that “because of this sudden change occurring when students have already selected rooms for the upcoming semester, we are resetting everyone’s number to a new randomly generated lottery number to ensure everyone has a fair shot at suitable housing.”
However, a later official email sent by Quinnipiac Housing to the rising sophomores proved all this to be a lie.
“We are aware that a fake message is currently circulating regarding sophomore housing and room selection,” the email read. “Please be assured that this message is not true and was not sent by the Office of Housing or Residential Life.”
That email also clarified that Commons is staying as first-year housing only and there are no changes to the lottery numbers or the room selection process.
However, the website still states that the Commons is listed as sophomore housing. More rumors about the website being hacked started circulating on YikYak.
The university has yet to respond to The Chronicle’s attempts for a statement.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
