UPDATE: 6/25/15
From the Department of Campus Life to the Dean’s office, Courtney McKenna, former director of fraternity and sorority life, will start her new position as case manager for the dean of students on July 1.
Case manager for the dean of students is a new position at the university. McKenna said she was offered the position when she returned from chaperoning a recent QU301 South Africa trip.
In her new position, McKenna will handle case management, student conduct and prevention programming. Though she said the Dean’s office is still finalizing the details of the position, the prevention aspect will include alcohol and drug prevention and sexual misconduct prevention.
Despite this being a new position at the university, McKenna said her time as director of fraternity and sorority life has prepared her for the new position.
“In and of itself, fraternity and sorority life includes a lot of prevention programming and risk management programming,” McKenna said.
She said she also worked with judicial board training, workshops and creating effective sanctions for inappropriate student conduct within fraternity and sorority life.
Though she said she enjoyed her time as director of fraternity and sorority life, she is looking forward to expanding her horizons.
“I’m excited to be able to expand the group of students I can help and work with,” McKenna said. “As director of fraternity and sorority life, I worked with a ton of students, but this job will make it even broader.”
McKenna’s previous position as director of fraternity and sorority life is currently vacant. Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Cindy Long Porter is heading the search for a replacement. McKenna said the main concern for a replacement is simply to find the best possible candidate.
“I’m really optimistic that we can find someone who can come in and push the community in the direction that we are taking it,” McKenna said.
Kyle Hickman, assistant director of fraternity and sorority life, will leave his position on June 30 to take on the role of senior director of communications for Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
