“I’m numb after today’s game,” Quinnipiac head coach Rick Seeley said. “Two games in a row at home and a three goal lead, and they blow it. I’m just numb.”

The Black Bears began to close the gap with less than three minutes left in the second period. A shot from Jennifer More left Bobcat goalie Victoria Vigilanti down, allowing Missy Denk to tip the puck into the open side.

Starting off the third period, Danielle Ward picked up her own rebound off the pads of Vigilanti to send it into the top of the net.

With 30 seconds remaining in the game, and the Bobcats leading 4-3, Maine’s Brittany Dougherty got a shot off as she was falling, the puck sliding into the net.

Two minutes and 32 seconds into overtime, Ward received a pass from Dawn Sullivan and flipped the puck over Vigilanti’s shoulder into the goal, giving Maine the win.

“We have a lot of faith in our philosophy and so do the players when we do it,” Seeley said. “We’re just very fragile right now, and a team scores, I think we start getting nervous and I’m not sure why.”

Quinnipiac’s Kelly Babstock opened the scoring at 2:56 of the first period when she slipped the puck between Maine goaltender Brittany Ott and the post. Ott was promptly replaced by Kylie Smith.

Maine’s Myriam Croussette answered nearly 10 minutes later to tie the game. Quinnipiac’s Nicole Kosta, Kate Wheeler and Brittany Lyons responded with goals of their own, giving the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.

“It’s a tale of two games,” Seeley said. “The first half we fore-checked well, we worked hard, we back-checked well. We capitalized on opportunities, and the second half we didn’t. Everything kind of went well the first half, and obviously it changed the second. “

With a two-game losing streak, the Bobcats look to turn around their luck next weekend when they travel to Boston to take on Northeastern University.
