The Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team responded to last week’s loss to Bryant University by defeating Wagner College 16-6 at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Field.

Senior Christine Sinnegan had a game-high five points while freshman Laura Ianotti scored four goals in the victory.

“It was important that we came out and played well today,” Quinnipiac head coach Danie Caro. “We kept our focus on us. We’re not worried about who we’re playing or what we’re doing. If we execute our gameplan and keep doing what we need to do we’ll be competitive with any team in our league.”

Laura Ianotti propelled the Bobcats (8-4, 5-1 NEC) offense scoring three of the team’s first six goals in the first 16:12 of the first half. However, after her third goal, Wagner (3-10, 2-4) shut down QU’s offense and crawled back with two goals from Sam Morin to narrow the score to 6-3.

After nine minutes without scoring, the Bobcats unleashed their offense. Ianotti broke the scoring drought with her fourth goal of the game and sparked a 5-0 to end the first half. The Bobcats carried their momentum into the second half, going on another 5-0 run and taking a 16-3 lead.

“Sometimes when things happen early on, the team can get a little complacent, but to their credit when Wagner started to make a run they were able to get refocused and do what they’re able to do,” Caro said. “I’m just happy with the way the team played; they sustained the momentum into the second half and put the game out of reach.”

With Monmouth defeating St. Francis (Pa.) the Bobcats keep pace for first place in the NEC standings. They return to action on Sunday when they host Long Island University on Senior Day.
