President Donald Trump gave the annual State of the Union Address on Feb. 24.
I have never seen such a disturbing performance in my life.
A lot of it was baseless hootin’ and hollerin’ that everyone should be aware of and cautious of. The State of the Union is supposed to be for the people, to inform them. What is the point of having it if the “information” is wrong? If it’s just to uplift a singular man? It was all propaganda.
I knew it was coming. Let’s be honest, are we surprised? All he does is boast, while being factually incorrect, and people clap. It’s so frustrating watching it unfold right before my eyes.
The audience of supporters honestly reminded me of a codependent dog that pathetically follows you around the house, and pees on the floor when you leave because it doesn’t know what to do without its owner. I’m convinced that that’s how the Trump administration operates, but I’m not convinced there’s a single thought behind their eyes. Just pure submission.
They were making their glutes great again as they continuously stood up, sat down, stood up, repeat. What is this? The Venice Film Fest with all of these standing ovations? You don’t need to give a standing ovation for every three syllables. It was just performative and desperate, since nothing he said was that wowing, and a lot of it was just wrong.
To the cabinet members, members of Congress and others who sat on the House floor, please try to do a better job at convincing the country that you’re doing a job for Americans. We can all see from here that you’re trying to be on “Love after Lockup” the way you’re down bad for this felon.
First, he (per usual) couldn’t go 10 minutes without mentioning former President Joe Biden. He talks about that man more than a schoolgirl talks about a crush. It’d be sweet if we weren’t bordering on Joe Goldberg-level obsession. But then again, he does have a history with secretly liking the former presidents a little too much, isn’t that right, Bubba?
Then we jumped into talking about the economy — the number one issue for voters in 2024.
Trump claimed that when he took office, he had inherited a bad economy. Right off the bat, the alarm bells are going off because when Trump took office for the second time, America was being called “the envy of the world” because of how well the economy was doing. Costs have actually continued to rise, including the cost of housing and groceries.
Speaking of increasing costs, “As time goes by, I believe the tariffs, paid for by foreign countries…” Trump said. No. I’m going to stop you right there. Take a step back. What’s a tariff? Well, according to the definition I learned in eighth grade, it’s a tax on imported goods. Thanks, Mrs. Cleveland.
The consumer pays the cost. So please tell me what he means when he says, “paid for by foreign countries.” Because, whether you like it or not, that is, by definition, factually incorrect.
Any credibility should be questioned right then and there, when the President messes up on something an eighth grader could get right. There is no cult of personality that is going to change that. That’s not an opinion, ask my girl Merriam-Webster.
He is either completely ignorant about this and doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or he’s lying to his supporters. Take your pick.
To those who voted for him “for the economy,” please take a long, hard look.
“Oh, but he’s a businessman.” He’s gone bankrupt six times.
How does he have so much money? He received “at least $413 million in today’s dollars from his father’s real estate empire, much of it through tax dodges in the 1990s,” according to an investigation done by the New York Times.
He’s not “one of you.” He’s a nepo-baby wanting to get more power at your expense. He spent two hours at this address just yapping and people ate it up. For what? It doesn’t do anyone any favors, but he’s got his hooks sunk so deep into vulnerable Americans that they’ll shrug this off or celebrate it.
He also talked about how he “ended” eight wars. While he claims this, many countries’ leaders dispute it. At best, his plans are in the works.
He brought up the SAVE America Act, which would change voter registration and identification rules in federal elections. His reasoning behind it is that “illegal aliens” are voting in our elections. He’s fear-mongering. As a certified election worker in the state of Connecticut, a state where he has been very vocal about its “corruption,” he’s full of it. We’re even trained in situations where there is someone going to vote illegally. He’s blowing it out of proportion.
What this act will do, though, is prohibit a lot of people from voting, especially women and lower-income people. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s his plan.
In the audience was TurningPointUSA CEO, and a version of “weird Barbie,” Erika Kirk. I’m glad she could take a day off from dancing on her husband’s grave to celebrate with her friends.
Yet, also in the audience were Jeffrey Epstein’s victims. Did Trump acknowledge them? No. I find it interesting how, even though this event was meant for the American people, Trump didn’t say anything about the files or Epstein, despite most Americans wanting the files released.
I find it odd that something that has such strong support goes unmentioned. How hard is it to say, “We’re going to do our best to get justice for these victims?” I bet pretty hard when that justice would include himself being arrested.
Instead, he ignored those women, and he also ignored the American people, letting himself be showered in praise.
This speech was not for us Americans, as it was intended to be. This was a performative display of power. You should be irked and offended. You should feel uncomfortable that our democracy has strayed away from its focus on the “people.”

Why did we elect such a stupid president.
