Game, set, and match. That has been music to the ears of the men’s tennis team so far this season. It seems the Bobcats have put last season’s loss in the semi-finals to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County behind them, as they are a perfect 2-0 in the early stages of the season. With wins over Siena, a 6-1 victory back in mid-September and, most recent, a 5-2 win against the University of Rhode Island on October 7th, the Bobcats have shown dominance over their opponents thus far.

The Bobcats won four of six singles matches against URI, which included a triumph for third seeded freshman sensation, Stefano Salvatore, of Wyckiff, New Jersey. Salvatore, a business major, defeated Nick Barbera of Rhode Island in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3.

Also on the singles end competition, freshmen Andrew Chan, of Great Neck, New York, helped the Bobcats cause by handling the Rams’ Max Bruninghold, 6-1 and 6-1.

The victories were flowing like water with Jonathan Russo, a sophomore from Garden City, New York, winning his match 6-1 and 6-1. Freshman Alex Altman, of Riverdale, New York, defeated his opposition 6-1 and 6-2.

On the doubles side of the meet, the Bobcats also came out on top by taking two of three matches from the Rams. Junior co-captain, Fabian Villacis, a native of Derby, Connecticut, along with his partner, Scott Salway, a freshman from Glastonbury, Connecticut, beat up on URI’s number three double’s team, by the count of 8-2.

Chan had the best of both worlds by also winning his doubles match. The team of Chan and senior Alex Raymundo, from Windsor, Connecticut, beat up on Dustin Parente and Bruninghold by a score of 8-6.

Men’s tennis will hope to continue its winning ways when they host the Quinnipiac Invitational this Friday, Oct. 17.
