Over the past two weekends, the Bobcats have been out and about, participating in eight different sports tournaments. From New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire to Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Connecticut, the Bobcats have been making their mark all across the Northeast.
The Men’s Golf team traveled to Piscataway, New Jersey to participate in the Rutgers Tournament the weekend of Sept. 13-14. They finished 14 out of 24 with a total two-day score of 598 (300-298). Leading the way was sophomore Charlie Niland and junior Brady Giroux, as they were separated by 2 points. Niland placed 36 overall with a two-day score of 147. He shot 75 the first day and followed that with a 72 on a par 71 course. Giroux finished 47 overall by shooting a two-day score of 149(75-74). Rounding out the scoring for the Bobcats was, senior Jayson Loranger with a 150 (75-75), junior Ben Cooke and senior Ian O’Connor both scored a 152 and senior Ryan Reynolds with a 164. The Bobcats then turned their focus to the Dartmouth Invitational, the weekend of Sept. 19-20.
The Women’s Soccer team travelled to Queens, New York City to take part in the NYC Nike Classic. They played hard, but lost both games in the tournament. The Bobcats played Seton Hall University and St. Johns University, losing by scores of 1-0 in both matches. Susan Donovan and Furtuna Velaj led the Bobcats on the attack with two shots on goal each, while Jillian Kelley held up the fort by making twelve saves.
The Volleyball team travelled to both Bethlehem and Easton, Pennsylvania to play in the Lehigh-Lafayette Crosstown Tournament. The team kept all of their sets, but unfortunately could not get any of them to turn their way. The Bobcats forced all three matches, Lehigh, Columbia and Lafayette, to go into extra points in at least one of the three sets. Freshman Kayla Lawlor led the way for the Bobcats with 64 attacks and 17 digs over the duration of the tournament. The Bobcats then turned their focus to the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island, the weekend of Sept. 19-20.
Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Cross Country both participated in the Monmouth Invitational in Homdel Park, New Jersey the weekend of Sept. 19-20. Both teams went into the tournament ranked in the Northeast and looked to improve their rankings with good results in New Jersey.
Women’s Tennis opened their off-season play by hosting the Quinnipiac Invitational this past weekend. Fairfield University, University of Connecticut, University of Rhode Island, Seton Hall University, Bryant University, Army College and University of Maryland, Baltimore County all came to Quinnipiac to take part in this tournament.
Softball went to Fairfield, Connecticut to participate in the Fairfield Round Robin. They faced off against Sacred Heart University and the University of Fairfield.
With all of this tournament action under way, the Bobcats look to have the experience, leadership and unity to bring great success when conference play finally begins.
