Cross country competes in NCAA Regionals

Both the Quinnipiac University women’s and men’s cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division I New England Regional Championship Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. and finished 14th and 25th, respectively.

The women’s team gave a strong performance and finished in the top half of the 36 teams that competed.

All of the Bobcats top five finishers came in the top 100 of the 254 that ran the race. Quinnipiac’s female athlete of the month for October, sophomore Kristen Stevens, led the way with 44th place finish and a time of 21:51. Stevens has been the highest Bobcats finisher in the two years she has competed in this event, as she placed 31st in last year’s.

Senior Susan Ashe was the next best for the Bobcats, placing 56th. Sophomore Lindsey Pierret’s 22:21 time put her across the finish line 71st, while junior Chelsea Bollerman was not far behind, coming in 75th. The final of the top five was senior Abbey Gosling in 94th.

On the men’s side, Quinnipiac’s squad finished 25th out of the 34 schools from the northeast.

Each of Quinnipiac’s top five runners finished in the top 200. Junior Terence Moriarty was the Bobcats’ best finisher for with a time of 32:06, coming in 100th. Sophomore Tyler Dinnan was not far behind, as his time of 32:16 earned him 110th. Junior Jack McDonald’s time of 32:59 earned him 146th place. Rounding out Quinnipiac’s top five were freshman John Greenlaw in 173rd (33:39) and junior Nicholas Rezendes in 199th (34:37).
