QU unsure of closing Friday

The university has not made plans to cancel classes on Friday after Thursday’s snowstorm, according to Associate Vice President for Public Relations John Morgan.

“I am not aware of any plans to close on Friday,” Morgan said. “Decisions to close for the day are typically made early in the morning of the day in question.”

Facilities has been plowing all three campuses as needed throughout the day, according to Morgan.

“Their goal is to clear the snow and make each campus as safe as possible for all members of the university community,” Morgan said. “Facilities workers are doing an outstanding job in very difficult weather conditions that include snow, cold temperatures and wind.”

Just before 5:30 a.m., the university made the decision to cancel all classes.

“The forecast for heavy snow made the decision easy to make,” Morgan said. “As soon as the decision was made, the university used the Rave Alert system to send texts, phone calls and emails to members of the university community to notify them that the university is closed and that students should go online to check for possible communications from their professors.”

Members of the university community who have not yet signed up for Rave alerts are encouraged to do so, Morgan said.
