Sometimes, you don’t need a win to accomplish a goal. The men’s soccer team did exactly that Saturday afternoon against the Saint Peter’s Peacocks.

The game ended in a 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtimes. With the tie, the Bobcats clinch a spot in the top four in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings, and a spot in the playoffs.

Despite not getting the win, Quinnipiac head coach Eric Da Costa was very pleased with the team’s accomplishment.

“We came into today looking to get a playoff spot and we did, we are ecstatic about that,” Da Costa said.

Before playing their last home game in a Quinnipiac uniform, the five seniors on the Bobcats were honored by their teammates and fans.

The Bobcats had many scoring opportunities throughout the game, getting 14 shots off. The trouble was finding the touch, only putting two of those shots on goal.

“We had some good chances, but the decision of whether to shoot or whether to pass was where we struggled today,” Da Costa said.

There were few scoring opportunities in the first half. The Bobcats did win six corner kicks, but Peacock goalie David Gidding punched out all of the attempts.

The second half got a little scrappy, with five yellow cards being pulled.

The closest the Bobcats goal came to scoring was in the 50th minute, when senior Sam Nicol dinged a penalty kick off the crossbar following a yellow card.

The Peacocks almost gave the lead to the Bobcats with a near own goal by Al Johnson in the 71st minute.

The overtime was uneventful besides two Quinnipiac yellow cards, being called on Erik Panzer and Justin Ward.

Junior goalkeeper Borja Angoitia pulled out another shutout. The clean sheet, which is the fourteenth of his career, gives him sole possession of second place in that category.

The Bobcats, now 7-4-5 and 5-1-2 in the MAAC, finish up their regular season with two away games against Rider and Siena next week before entering the MAAC Championships.
