Even Vincent Guglietti’s best game of the season wasn’t enough to push Quinnipiac over the hump.

Despite the sophomore’s four hits and three RBI, Quinnipiac fell to Wagner, 10-9, in the final contest of a four-game set. The Bobcats losing streak has been extended to 17 games in the process.

“We scored nine runs, that’s a pretty good offensive performance on day four,” Quinnipiac head coach Dan Gooley said. “He [Guglietti] attacks left-center field. When he’s in that hitting groove, he hits a lot of line drives or a lot of long fly balls.”

Steffen Herter went 3 for 5 on the day, with an RBI to his credit. Ryan Nelson went 2 for 4, chiming in with 2 RBI’s.

Quinnipiac climbed back from two deficits on the afternoon, the first of which came after being down 5-1 in the third. The Bobcats then responded by rattling off a two-run third followed by a three-run fourth to retake the lead.

“We play hard every single day,” Gooley said. “It’s all about getting good, solid, frontline pitching. You get behind a little bit; we never quit. We stayed right after it and we battled back.”

Down 9-7 in the later half of the game, Quinnipiac slowly chipped away at the Seahawks lead, finally tying Wagner in the bottom of the eighth. Chris Migani reached base after a walk, later advancing to second following a wild pitch. Guglietti then singled Migani to third, while Scott Donaghue scored Migani via a fielder’s choice.

Wagner later added the game-winning run in the ninth. After a Shaun Flynn double, Ben Ruta grabbed his second base hit of the game, giving the Seahawks the 10-9 advantage.

“It’s part of the game,” Gooley said. “Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.”

Quinnipiac aims to snap its losing streak in a non-conference matchup on May 1 against UMass.
