The 12 students who were arrested are being dealt with, and most likely punished, by the criminal justice system – specifically the Hamden Police Department, and rightly so. However, since the students were not on campus or campus owned property, Quinnipiac University should not have the authority to punish them as well. The group of 12 was not a club or an organization associated with or representing the university. They were citizens in their private home and Quinnipiac University should not have jurisdiction. And those who are seniors deserve their degrees, as well as the opportunity to walk in the commencement ceremony.
