The Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball team recently named its captains for the 2003-2004 season. The decision was made on September 4 by head coach Joe DeSantis. Seniors Kason Mims and Rashaun Banjo along with junior Rob Monroe were honored with this distinction.

Mims is a native of Astoria, New York. This is his second season serving as a captain for the Bobcats. Last year, he achieved a second team ALL-NEC selection. He tied for the team lead in scoring with 13.4 points per game. He also led the team in assists with a total of 135, 4.6 per game. Mims led the team in minutes played with 1004, steals with 53, and free throws made with 98 and attempted with 169.

Banjo received All-NEC tournament honors last year after emerging as one of the team’s star performers averaging 13.4 points per game, which tied him for the team lead with Mims. Banjo led the team with eight 20+ point games. He was second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game. He also led the team in three point percentage with .394.

Monroe has been a starter since his freshman year. He averaged 13.3 points per game and tallied 104 assists, 4.3 per game. He also led the team in minutes per game with 35.8 and in three pointers made with 55 and attempted with 151. His accomplishments merited a selection to the All-NEC Second Team.

Head coach Joe DeSantis explained why these players were selected to be captains. “It is obvious to everyone who has followed our program how important Rashaun, Kason and Rob are,” he said. “They are committed to taking our team to the next level.”

With these three veterans in the line-up along with C.J. Vick and Adam Tancredi playing in the post, the Bobcats have a scoring threat in every position and will be a challenge for any team that comes in their path this season.
