The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team lost to Mount St. Mary’s, 59-53, at the TD Bank Sports Center Thursday. The Northeast Conference loss leaves the Bobcats with a 1-1 overall record in the NEC and 6-7 overall. The Mountaineers improve to 1-2 in the NEC and 5-8 overall.
Junior Courtney Kaminski registered her second double-double for the season with 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to pace the Bobcats. Senior Kathleen Neyens also compiled 16 points, while recording four assists and four rebounds.
Both teams traded points during the first half of the game, but the Mountaineers came out with a three-point lead, 30-27, at halftime.
The Bobcats took a two-point lead after Neyens made two foul shots. The Mountaineers bounced back to go ahead by one. Quinnipiac took a timeout with 6:37 remaining on the clock, still down 47-42. The Bobcats attempted to take the lead, but could only trim the score to 59-53 by the end of the game.
“We had a season-low of turnovers,” Quinnipiac head coach Tricia Fabbri said after the loss. “We lost this game on the defensive side where the point-guard was absent.”
The team was missing their starting point guard due to injury. Neyens filled the position for the game.
“We weren’t out there with the effort and intensity,” Fabbri said.
Quinnipiac will attempt to bring the effort and intensity as it returns to action today when it hosts Wagner College in a conference matchup at noon at the TD Bank Sports Center.
