It was a tale of two nights for the Bobcats as they played in the Nutmeg Classic Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.

In it opening round contest against the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac fought the entire game but the one goal it was searching for never came as they fell 1-0.

UConn scored five minutes into the first period as it converted a two-on-one opportunity with Monique Weber being on the scoring end of a one-timer that beat Bobcat goaltender Victoria Vigilanti to the upper-right corner of the goal.

Just as the game was winding down, the Bobcats had one last chance to pull even when UConn was called for tripping inside two minutes to play in the third period. After the Bobcats pulled Vigilanti to give them a six-on-four advantage, senior forward Janine Duffy collected a rebound at the post and tried to lift the puck over the goalie, but the shot was deflected away.

The horn later sounded and the Bobcats suffered a tough 1-0 defeat.

In the consolation game on Saturday, however, the Bobcats left with a completely different result.

The Bobcats, for the first time in program history, scored 11 goals, and for the second time ever, won by a 10-goal margin, as they beat Sacred Heart by a score of 11-1 on Friday.

The Bobcats jumped on the board early and never looked back. Freshman Kristen Eklund scored her first career goal a little more than three minutes into the first period. The goal came off a rebound from an initial shot by Duffy.

Nine Bobcats in total had multi-point nights, led by Eklund’s hat trick plus an assist and Duffy who recorded a four-assist night. Also contributing were seniors Kallie Flor and Evelina Husar, and freshman Breehan Polci, who each had a goal and two assists.

Vigilanti and Amanda Nagel each split time in goal for the Bobcats and both recorded five saves on the afternoon.

With the victory, the Bobcats move to 7-5-4 on the year, and are now tied with Princeton for fourth place in ECAC Hockey.
