Women’s Basketball: Bobcats blown out by Providence

The Quinnipiac women’s basketball team lost 84-61 to Providence College in a non-conference game at Mullaney Gymnasium Tuesday night.

Senior Kathleen Neyens had five early points to give her team an 8-5 lead. Providence responded with an 11-2 run to take a 13-point lead.

Redshirt freshman Felicia Barron came out shooting against the Friars, connecting on her first three field goal attempts. She finished with 12 points in the first half.

Despite Barron’s long-range shots, the Bobcats could not surpass the Friars before halftime. The Friars ended with a 43-35 lead at halftime.

The Bobcats attempted to overcome the Friars in the second half with a 3-pointer by sophomore Jacinda Dunbar. Shelby Sferra registered her first career points on a lay-up with eight minutes remaining in the game. However, the Friars outscored the Bobcats in the second half, 41-26.

The Bobcats became the first team to reach the 60-point mark against the Friars this season. Three Bobcats contributed double-digit scoring in the game. Barron was held scoreless in the second half, while redshirt junior Courtney Kaminski and Dunbar collected 10 points each.

With the loss, Quinnipiac fell to 0-2 on the season, while the Friars improved to 4-0.

Quinnipiac will tip off again on Sunday, Nov. 29, as they take on New Hampshire in their home opener at the TD Bank Sports Center at noon.
