It certainly has been an eventful, not to mention contentious, year thus far. Between security, parking and dining, there’s been plenty to protest and complain to the administration about. But the flip side, the side that many students do not acknowledge, is that that the administration also deserves our thanks.

We, as a student body, stood up and said that there wasn’t enough security at York Hill to keep us safe. Quinnipiac hired more security.

We said that it was silly and inconvenient to close Hogan Road parking lot at 7 p.m. when classes go until 9:15. Quinnipiac extended Hogan’s hours until 11 p.m.

We said that the Bobcat Den was too crowded. Quinnipiac extended the hours of Café Q.

Granted, not all of these changes went as far as we might have liked. There are still issues to be worked on with security, parking is still going to be a headache and if you go to the Bobcat Den at 5 p.m., you are still going to wait in a behemoth of a line. But it is still a start.

That is not to say that we should stop fighting to make our experience at Quinnipiac the best that it can be. But while we continue to fight on, as fiercely as ever, we must keep in mind that these things take time.

What we can take away from everything that has happened this year is that no matter how bad things seem, no matter how upset we may be, there’s a way to fix it, because the system works. If we make our voices heard, through SGA, student media or less conventional means, the administration has shown that they will listen. I’ll be the first to say that there is a lot more work to do, but before we press forward, maybe we should pause for a moment, and maybe, before we start to make more demands, we should thank Quinnipiac for how well it has listened so far.
