The Quinnipiac men’s soccer team fell in a non-conference matchup to NJIT Saturday in overtime, 2-1, in Newark N.J. Freshman Ola Ogunjobi scored his team-leading fourth goal for the Bobcats’ lone goal.Quinnipiac fell behind early in the game when NJIT scored its first goal at the nine minute mark from Nathan D’Aversa. Ogunjobi scored in the 56th minute of play off a pass from freshman Machel Baker to send the game into overtime.With just two minutes into overtime, NJIT’s Christian Galindo scored the game-winning goal on a rebounded ball from his previous shot.Quinnipiac played with just nine men, including the goalkeeper, for the final 28 minutes of the game and two minutes of overtime due to two red cards being issued.
Machel Baker and Brandon Strain-Goode were the ones who warranted the red cards.
NJIT outshot Quinnipiac 22-6 for the game while Bobcat goalkeeper Josh Lavallee had six saves in the loss, three in each half.
The Bobcats will head back to conference play Friday when they host St.Francis (Pa.) at 2 p.m. on the Quinnipiac Soccer Field.
