Tierra Allen, daughter of Boston Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen, has committed to play volleyball at Quinnipiac.

In an announcement released by Quinnipiac Athletics, Allen, along with four others, will make up the 2011 recruiting class for the women’s volleyball team.

Allen averaged 10 kills, 10 service points and three assists per match last season as a senior at Wellesley High School in Wellesley, Mass. She was a four-time league all-star and a two-time all-area selection between her time at Wellesley High and Crestwood High School in South Carolina.

“Tierra is one of the most powerful athletes I saw last season,” Quinnipiac head coach Robin Sparks said. “She has a fantastic jump serve and hits the ball with authority. Once she adjusts to the pace of the collegiate game, she is going to be a terrific contributor.”

In addition to Allen, Krista Bennett, Tanner Celestin, Brittanie Robinson, and Samantha Jablonski will all be newcomers for the Bobcats next season.

Bennett, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was named all-region and team MVP in her junior and senior years, and was an all-state honorable mention her senior season.

Celestin, of Norco, Calif., was named all-league second team and varsity all-academic American during her senior season.

Robinson was named team MVP her junior and senior season at Edison High School in Fresno, Calif. She was also named first-team all-area and earned First Team County/Metro Athletic Conference in her final two seasons. She was awarded League MVP as a senior.

Jablonski is a transfer from Suffolk Community College where she spent the last two seasons and earned all-region honors and nominated for all-American.

“I am excited to be adding a solid recruiting class to our program for next Fall,” Sparks said. “Not only do we have five great athletes joining us, but they are five terrific students as well.  I expect them to mesh well with our returners and give us depth that we have lacked in the past.”
