Quinnipiac sophomore golfer Sophia Fujita has broken the women’s MAAC Championship individual tournament record, securing her second consecutive McLeod Trophy Thursday afternoon.
The Torrance, Calif. native finished the tournament four under par over the three-day competition, with her overall score of 212 being the lowest in history for a women’s golfer in the MAAC Championship since the conference made the switch to 54-holes in 2002.
Fujita’s -3 and -2 finishes on the final two days of the tournament helped her secure the Individual MAAC Championship over UAlbany junior Callie Taylor and Fairfield sophomore Grace Windfelder, who both finished the tournament one stroke behind Fujita.
Fujita’s campaign, along with the Bobcats breaking the record for best women’s MAAC Championship round by a team by scoring a -2 during Wednesday’s second round, pushed the team to their second consecutive MAAC Championship title, and their fifth in six years.
