In a university-wide email on Friday, Quinnipiac University announced the arrival of a new designated parking area for commuter students located in North Lot, as well as designated spots for the new Bookstore and faculty and staff
As a result of student complaints, and efforts made by the Student Government Association, the new “Northwest Commuter Area” will provide students with 67 available parking spots dedicated to commuters, faculty and staff.
Quinnipiac officials warn that only vehicles labeled with a green or dark grey parking pass will be eligible to park in the lot. Violators are said to be ticketed without any prior warning.
Despite the lot being highly enforced, by recognizing that commuter students may arrive on campus during peak traffic hours, the school hopes this space will allow more convenience for them. Students will have these lots available to them immediately.
The specific faculty and staff lot that takes up the first two rows of the northwest part of the North Lot comes as a result of the still ongoing construction taking place behind the College of Arts and Sciences, taking away what previously were 16 spaces for faculty.
These charges effectively leave non-commuter students with only the spaces located in the north part of North Lot, or on the left side of the entrance.
Following the fall semester, students on campus continue to be met with frustration as parking regulations grow stricter, according to The Chronicle
With yet another section of parking becoming inaccessible to those who are not commuter students, roughly 75% of the student body, according to usnews.com, the school has advised that students should utilize the Hogan Lot, located at the end of Mount Carmel Campus behind the Mountainview Residence Hall and the adjacent first-year and sophomore residence area.
With any complaints or further questions regarding access to parking and permits, students are encouraged to contact [email protected].
