For President

My name is Kristen McGuire, and I hope to be elected as your Student Body President. This past year I served as the VP of Public Relations, and I feel that my tenure as an executive board member and my other experiences at this university make me the most qualified candidate. Through my relationships with administration I have established proper communication skills necessary to be a voting member on the Board of Trustees, and my experience as the VP of PR has shown me how communications between SGA and our constituents can be bettered. As a committee chair, I learned how my actions help to facilitate others make great accomplishments. As President of SGA, it would be my duty to foster cooperation and consensus within our organization and to motivate your elected representatives to carry out the goals of the entire student body. I will not say that I personally have the best ability to judge what every student needs and wants- I understand that every student has different needs and wants. It is most important that your SGA reaches out for YOUR needs. It is MOST important that the questions and concerns of YOU, the Quinnipiac student, be addressed.

My name is Tom Fritz and I am running for Student Body President. The president of the student body is a person that needs to have a strong desire to work with both the student body and the administration. As the student representative to the Board of Trustees this past year, I made the contacts with administration that will enable me to get the changes you want to see happen. However, working with administration is only half of the job. More importantly, I want to work with you, the students. I want to see a student that is passionate about an issue sit in a meeting with me and an administrator. I want to see the whole student body be excited about doing something for the school. I want each and every Quinnipiac student happy with their college experience. I want to unite us all under one Paw.When you vote, think about what you want out of your next year in college. The choices we make today will directly effect our collective tomorrow’s. I [Sean Geary] have made the decision to run for President of the Student Body because I want to spark change. I am not content with seeing the choice’s made today be based solely on the tomorrows of others. We are the current students and the time is now. I have been a member of SGA for two years, an orientation leader since last June and I am a member of a Greek executive board. I am a Resident Assistant and a member of the universities tiered leadership program. I have attended leadership conferences, diversity conferences, and participated in a service trip to Nicaragua. I have seen the many forms of leadership and understand what it takes to make a difference. I want to make a difference on this campus. We, as the student body, determine our success. Make the choice for today. Fight for the current students and ensure that the four years we have are not spent on what will be but on what is. Now is the time. For VP Student Concerns

My name is Andy Clark and I’m running for re-election as Vice President of Student Concerns for the Student Government Association. I have served on SGA since my freshmen year and was special elected Vice President of Student Concerns at the end of first semester. Although this semester has been great I really look forward to having another entire year in my current position to continue to work on improving Quinnipiac in everyway. As the Vice President of Student Concerns I will continue to look into all issues effecting students at our university, no matter how small or big. I will challenge my committee to think big, work hard, and continue to be proactive opposed to reactive as we try to improve student life. There will always be issues, concerns, problems at a university and my goal is to be constantly working on those problems. I look forward to continue to challenge administration as I represent the student body next year and strive to achieve equilibrium of respect and success between all administrators. For VP Finance

My name is Jason Bond and I am running for VP of Finance. As a current member of the finance committee, I have worked on special appeals every month. I have learned to perform all routine operations conducted by the VP of Finance. Part of my work during the past year was making the Finance Guide easier to understand. The Guide breaks down everything an organization leader needs to know about how to run their group’s finances. I was also very involved with the creation of the Tuition Breakdown, which is a document that summarizes where each student’s tuition goes each year. The Tuition Breakdown will be distributed to you next month. If elected, I will work to improve the way the organizational VISA card is operated. I believe that it should be easer to obtain and to return, so that it does not get suspended as frequently as has recently. As a representative of the sophomore class, I have worked extensively on getting students in the triples reimbursed. I have made numerous presentations to the administration in that regard. Much progress has been made, and we are still working on the final details with President Lahey.

Hi, I’m Patrick Ippolito and I am running for the Vice President of Finance position. I believe I am the most qualified candidate because I am currently a Junior Representative on the Finance Committee and was also a Freshman Representative on the Finance Committee. I have served as the Freshman Vice President and the Sophomore Class President. I’m running for Vice President of Finance in order to make sure that the fiscal responsibility that the Student Government Association (SGA) has shown in recent years continues. With new, productive student groups and organizations being formed all the time, our “set-in-stone” SGA budget has had to provide funding for many more events and initiatives than ever before. It is imperative that the Finance Committee is lead by someone who understands these budgetary constraints and has the experience to know how best to allocate our resources. I am not afraid of making tough decisions and I will always operate with the best intention of students in mind. If elected I will work to increase our budget for all student activities for the next fiscal year, which would enable us to have more money for May Weekend and concerts. For VP Public Relations

Hi, my name is Katelynn Rourke and I am running for Vice President of Public Relations. While serving as a representative of the Student Government Association for the past two years, I have been a member of the Public Relations Committee, a standing committee of SGA that has many different facets, including: On and Off Campus, Organizational, Semi-formal, Hamden Relations/Community Service, and Media. As one of the On and Off Campus Chairs, I have planned and executed many different events for the students of Quinnipiac University, including Coffee for Commuters, Wake-up Whitney, and the Off-Campus Housing Forum. I also helped create the Off Campus Housing Packet for students moving off campus. In addition, I have been a part of the semi-formal committee for the past two years, helping to publicize the event, order novelties, and sell tickets. My knowledge of the committee, dedication to the organization, strong work ethic and love of the Bobcat makes me believe that I am well qualified to serve as your Vice President of Public Relations.

For VP Programming

I [Kathleen Hart] am running for VP of Programming because I love the Student Programming Board (SPB). One of the reasons I love Quinnipiac so much is because it offers students free activities every Friday and Saturday night. These activities are one of the reasons I choose to come to Quinnipiac. Most of these activities are put together by SPB and include activities such as movies, comedians, magicians, carnivals and concerts. I have been a part of SPB since the beginning of freshman year. As a junior, I am currently on the executive board as the films chair. Being a part of SPB makes me happy and is something that I really enjoy. As the VP of Programming I want to do more to find out what the students want as programs. I would work with the rest of the executive board, as well other organizations through co-sponsorships, in order to collaborate and bring a diverse schedule of programs throughout the year. I would love the opportunity, if elected VP of Programming, to hold an even bigger role in the organization that I love so much and is already a huge part of my life at Quinnipiac.

I’m Alysse Rossner and I am running for the Vice President of Programming. Since second semester of my freshmen year I have been on SGA and am currently a sophomore representative on the Student Awareness Committee. From the beginning of my freshman year, I have been a member of SPB and was fortunate to be selected as the Novelties Chair of the executive board for this year. SPB has given me many opportunities, such as attending regional and national programming conferences. I planned events like mini-golf, the “Bobcat Bounce”, and “QU Carnival Night.” I also have the responsibility of programming the inflatable and novelty Quad events on May Weekend. Above all, I’ve been a part of a great e-board.

Since attending the Programming Committee meetings of SGA this semester, I’ve seen how it’s evolved. The core of the committee, programming, has been truly integrated and it reflects the objective of SPB. My goal is to continue this bridge between the two organizations that seem different, but are similar. Most importantly I want to ensure that fun, diverse programs are brought to Quinnipiac due to the hard work from the SGA cabinets and the individuals of the SPB e-board.

My name is Antonia Bortone and I am running for Vice President of Programming. As the V.P. of Programming, I believe it is my job along with the executive board of SPB and its members to ensure that SPB will reach it’s full potential. SPB has the largest budget on campus in terms of student organizations and as the V.P. I want to ensure that the programs being brought to campus are what the student population want, not just a few people. As one of my goals, I want to increase our membership, and not simply for the first few meetings; I want to retain our membership. Our general members are what keep this organization on its feet. We need them to help us accomplish the goals of SPB. I have multiple ideas for getting the general members involved in a more hands on way. My second goal is to make sure SPB is fun. This seems like a simple goal, but it has been an issue in the past. I want that excitement and enthusiasm of being part of SPB to come back. 1. Steve Kline

My name is Steve Kline, and I am running for the Voting Member of the Board of Trustees. The board discusses and decides the major financial and policy decisions of Quinnipiac. Because of the high level of responsibility and the high caliber of people who are on the board, the position demands professionalism and a willingness to question previously unchallenged assumptions. When deciding the major decision like tuition increase; I want to know by how much, but more importantly why? I believe that when questioning the established beliefs, it is vital to maintain professionalism to earn the respect and trust of the men and women on the board. As I will ask why to the board, most importantly I want to tell the student body why and where your tuition is being spent.

2. Jason Caplin

If elected as the voting member of the Board of Trustees, it would be my main goal to represent the student body to my best ability; because after all, we are the ones most affected by the administrations’ decisions. It would also be extremely important to me to close some of the gaps between administration and the student body. With my great administrative contacts and connections, I would be a great asset to the Board of Trustees; since I have already established a relationship with many of the members enabling me to easier voice student concerns. My name is Anthony V. Merrill and I am running for the position of Sophmore Class President. I am most qualified for this position because I am a very profound leader with the ability to adapt to new ideas and create a balance among my own and my peers ideas. I will work with my class to help solve campus issues and successfuly lead the sophmore cabinet. I am a recipient of the outstanding freshman award and am ready to bring my skills to the next level and become class President.

For the past year, I have had the privilege of serving as a freshman representative on SGA. As a representative of the freshman class I have begun my time as a leader on this campus. I understand the importance of the future of this community, and I see the changes that have been made and can be made to better this university. I would be honored to serve again as a member of SGA. What does a Sophomore Class Vice President need to have in order to be elected? Do they need to be “popular” or have a 4.0 GPA? Well I can’t say I am either of those, but I have a lot of other qualities to offer you. I am a friendly and enthusiastic individual that is open to getting to know you and your concerns. This past year I was a Class Representative, however this upcoming year I hope to have a stronger voice and become your Vice President. My name is Caitlin Dowley, and please vote for me!

My name is Katie Van Nostrand and I’m from Derry, New Hampshire. I am running for Student Government because I like to be involved and connected to the school in which I am attending. I have experience in student government from high school (Class-President) as well as experience from being on Student Government last semester. I have a love of meeting and getting to know new people. I am a very outgoing, approachable, and friendly person who gels well with others and works well with others to achieve a common goal. I am looking forward to the coming election.

2. Hannah Rinehart

My fellow students, It was my distinct privilege this past year to represent you as a member of your Freshmen Class. I have learned so much not only about myself, but about my fellow students. This year I served on the Student Awareness Committee working on student concerns. This position kept me in touch with what my fellow students wanted changed at QU. This experience allowed me to form lasting relationships with administration and faculty and have helped benefit the Freshman Class directly. Hello, my name is Samantha Manelis and I am running for the position of sophomore class representative. Here at Quinnipiac I have participated in Emerging Leaders, am an active member of Student Programming Board where I was Junior Concert Chair, and am a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta. My involvement on campus this past year has provided me with the experience and understanding necessary to learn how to be a leader and accomplish necessary tasks. My name is Matt Galo and I’m running for representative of the Class of 2010. I’m a great candidate because I love helping people with their concerns. Last semester I was elected and since then have done a lot that the freshman class has benefited from. I organized/hosted the freshman talent show and proposed quiet housing be offered as an option for all students. I am a suitable representative for my class next year because I was in Emerging Leaders this fall and learned how to organize my priorities. I played three sports and had a part-time job in high school which taught me how to manage my time well. I love working with people and helping out with important decisions that have to do with my community. I would really like to represent my class because I believe it would be a great learning experience for me and I can be a great role model and example to the rest of my peers.

1. Robert Malizia

My name is Robert Malizia and I am running for the office of junior class President. Although this is my first campaign, I am ready and qualified to take on the role of class president by bringing forth a fresh view and list of changes that need to be rendered to this university in order to allow the student body a more comfortable and worthwhile experience. My campaign is two fold and will encompass the issues of obtaining free laundry for all on campus residents, and also redesigning the lottery system in a more fair and credible manner for future .

Over the past two years, Quinnipiac has made leaps and bounds to improve our university. I have been a part of that process, helping to bring you, the students, things such as wireless internet in residence halls, working on a housing reimbursement for students in forced triples, and working with vice presidents to help obtain school spirited items. As Junior Class President, I would be able to help further enrich your Quinnipiac experience through my hard work, dedication, leadership and my administrative contacts. My name is Heather D’Amico and I am running for the position of Vice President for the Class of 2009. I feel that I am the best candidate for this position because I am a reliable, responsible individual who thrives on the challenges that are going to be presented to me. The next chapter in our college careers is intended to be exciting and adventurous; I want to facilitate these fun times for our class while also relaying the concerns and problems that we will soon face between the student body and administration. So I thought a lot about why I want to become Vice President of the junior class and I came up with a few reasons. I know that I would be a great representative of a soft spoken population. I’m known to be hardworking, dedicated and extremely vocal. I have represented my high school of Plymouth, Massachusetts as president of executive board and am prepared to take on the challenge of being your Vice President. My name is Jenna Palm. I am running for Junior Class Representative. I am very excited for the opportunity to join student government and make a difference in the Quinnipiac community. My name is Lauren Diamante and I am running for the position of junior class representative. I am a great candidate for this position because I am responsible, organized and ready to make our time at Quinnipiac great. Class representatives are the links between students and the administration. I want to address the issues of the student body as well as make our campus more environmentally friendly by promoting recycling. Having served on the Sophomore Class Cabinet for the last semester, I can say that it has been a great experience. Being able to work with students and administration has made this opportunity long worthwhile and has taught me a great deal about what it takes to create change. 7. Alyssa Mosley

I should be re-elected as your Junior Representative because you need someone who already knows the ins and outs of SGA. I’ve spent two years as a representative on SGA and as a Finance Committee member. Also, I’ve been involved with helping to accomplish my cabinet’s goals and I’m aware of the goals we need to focus on next year. Not only am I comfortable leading a group, but I also know how to listen. In addition, I’ll do everything possible to give our student body what they want. 8. Andy Clark

Howdy Quinnipiac I’m Andy Clark and I would love the chance to serve again as one of your class of 2009 Representatives. I have served on SGA since my freshmen year spending time on the Finance Committee and the Student Awareness Committee. I have a firm grasp and understanding of the Student Government Association and will be an even more effective leader next year. I think the most important duty of representatives is relaying student concerns and issues effectively to administration so we can strive to make Quinnipiac University the best it can be! 9. Sean Geary

Winston Churchill wrote, “success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm”. While I would not classify being elected as a representative a failure it certainly is not my goal. I believe in this campus and it’s capability to be a better place for the current students. I will work to achieve that goal in whichever position I am elected to. Thank you for everything.

My name is Lisa Jordan and I am running for the re-election of the Class of 2008 President. I have been a member of the Student Government since my freshmen year and have represented you as students for all of those years. If re-elected, I would not only continue to do so but make sure that your senior year is everything that you hope it to be and more. My name is Kristen McGuire, and if not elected as your Student Body President, I hope to be a Senior Class Representative. I have been a member of SGA for two years – I am the VP of Public Relations this year, and was a Sophomore representative previously. One of the most important areas that SGA needs to improve is its approachability to the student body. Students need a resource to go to with their suggestions/concerns. I have worked tirelessly to advocate on behalf of the student body; I would put forth an even greater effort to do so this year.

I would like to be a Student Government Association Senior Representative because I would like to continue my involvement at Quinnipiac. I have been very involved throughout my three years at Quinnipiac and Student Government will only enhance my involvement. I would like the opportunity to make the voices of the Class of 2008 heard. I am a responsible and hard working student and would like the opportunity to be a representative for the Class of 2008.

3. Antonia Bortone

My name is Antonia Bortone and I am running for Vice President of Programming. However, if I am not elected V.P. of Programming, I would like to be considered for a class of 2008 representative. As your representative, I want to ensure that you have a resource to utilize if you have questions, concerns, or ideas in regards to the campus. That resource would be me. I am always willing to listen to concerns and ideas and I can promise you that I will make sure they are heard at Student Government.

4. Tom Fritz

For the past year, I have served as a representative to the class of 2008. Given the opportunity, I would like to do it again. I worked very hard on our event this past fall which gave our class a chance to learn how to cook for when they move off campus next year. I also worked very hard on our goal of getting more student involvement in the conduct process. If elected as a senior representative, I will continue to work on the goals of the student body. My name is PATRICK IPPOLITO, and I am running for SENIOR CLASS REPRESENTATIVE! With THREE year of SGA experience, I know that I have what it takes to be representative. We need strong leadership and a loud voice to organize our class. I am excited to take on that challenge. I am a person who is interested in new ideas, no matter who or where they come from.
