Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band will be revisiting Hamden this weekend to close out their first ever headlining tour in the United States. The band will perform Saturday at The Space along with Jennifer O’Connor, Pablo and Aeroplane.

Devine released his latest album “Put Your Ghost to Rest” Oct. 17, 2006, which followed three albums that were released on independent labels: “Circle Gets the Square” in 2001; “Make the Clocks Move” in 2003; and “Split The Country, Split The Street” in 2005.

The 26-year-old Brooklyn native has had the love for music since a young age.

“There was always music around my house and I always wanted to do something with it. I remember being very young and singing and banging on table tops,” Devine said.

Devine, who used to be part of the band Miracle of ’86, released his first two solo records while still touring with the band.

“The songs didn’t appeal to the other members of the band and I liked them and I wanted to hear them,” Devine said.

Devine has the experience of being part of a group as well as a solo artist which gives him an edge and allows him to grow and develop strengths doing both.

“My name enables me to do whatever I want and not worry about anyone’s perception of it. But what I love about playing with other people is that it allows you to diversify a show. Someone can go to seven shows a year and see a different show each time,” Devine said.

Devine has performed at The Space about a dozen times before, both with the Miracle of ’86 and his current band members.

“It’s the last show of a month long tour so some people in our party will probably be tired but it’s always a good time there. The people [at The Space] are always really committed. I think it should be really fun,” Devine said.

Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band can fit into the genres indie, rock, punk and acoustic, incorporating a wide range of sounds and percussions. Devine writes his own lyrics that come from his life experiences along with his personal harmonies and vendettas.

“Sometimes it’s things that are going on in your life. it’s observing situations, observing people, the movies you’ve watched, the records you’ve heard, the experiences you’ve had, the ones you haven’t had, the ones you wish you had. It comes from your gut and what you see and what you feel and you sort of just turn it into something,” Devine said.

The Space is a local venue showcasing shows in a relaxed environment. It is located close to campus at 295 Treadwell St. in Hamden. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10.
