Deputy Chief of Public Safety Edgar Rodriguez has been appointed interim chief of public safety, effective immediately, according to a memo from Executive Vice President and Provost Mark Thompson on Tuesday.
Rodriguez joined Quinnipiac’s Department of Public Safety as the assistant chief in 2010 and was promoted to deputy chief in 2013, according to the memo.
“He brings 28 years of experience to his new position, namely in the areas of law enforcement, leadership, supervisory and community policing with the Connecticut State Police and the Town of Beacon Falls Police Department,” the memo said.
Rodriguez is replacing David Barger, who was expected to retire on June 30, 2015. Barger chose to take personal leave for his remaining time as the chief of public safety. Barger will provide consultation to the university as needed, according to the memo.
