A Domino’s Pizza delivery man was robbed at gunpoint near York Hill early Tuesday morning, according to Chief of Public Safety David Barger.
The gunman robbed the 25 year-old delivery man of his money, cell phone and car keys. The Domino’s employee also suffered a head injury, after being hit with the gun.
The delivery man was about to leave the driveway of York Hill around 1 a.m. when he heard a woman screaming for help, according to Hamden police. The delivery man went to assist the woman when a black man dressed in black held him at gunpoint.
The gunman dragged the delivery man out of his car, forced him to the ground, hit him on the head with his gun three times and then took his belongings.
The gunman drove off in a green van along with the woman who screamed for help and another male.
The Hamden police reported the robbery occurred as the delivery man was exiting the York Hill driveway, but Chief of Public Safety David Barger said the man was already off campus.
“He was close to the bottom of our driveway there, but he was on the street,” Barger said.
For this reason, Public Safety is not involved in Hamden police’s ongoing investigation.
“If there’s anything that we could offer in a way of helping the investigation we certainly will, but we haven’t been asked to be involved at any level,” Barger said.
Barger sent an email to students telling them about the incident around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. A federal law called the Clery Act requires the university to send the campus community “timely warnings” about crimes that could pose a threat to students, faculty and staff.
Since the suspects had fled the area, Barger said Public Safety did not feel the campus was unsafe. Whereas the university warned students about a home invasion on Shepard Avenue in September because the suspect could be coming near the campus, Barger said.
“At that time it was very, very timely because they were coming in our direction and so forth,” he said. “But in this particular case from what information we were able to get from the Hamden police at that time it appeared as though they left the area completely.”
Barger said Public Safety will step up its patrols over the next few days.
“Although none of us were involved, no member of the Quinnipiac community, everyone should remain vigilant,” he said. “If they see something, please call 911, call the Hamden police department.”

The delivery man was leaving the York Hill campus around 1 a.m. and was heading down the hill after making his delivery when he heard a woman screaming for help, according to Hamden police. The delivery man went to assist the woman when he was held at gunpoint.
The gunman drove off in a green van along with the woman who screamed for help and another male.
The Hamden police are investigating the armed robbery.
UPDATE: 3:55 p.m. Through an email sent to students, Chief of Public Safety David Barger said no students were involved.
