Volleyball drops match to Rider

Volleyball drops match to Rider

The women’s volleyball team fell to the Rider Broncs 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Burt Kahn Court. The loss is the Bobcats’ second loss of the weekend, following a 3-0 loss to Saint Peter’s Saturday night.

With the loss, the Bobcats remain winless in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 0-13 record, and have lost 12 straight games this season.

In the first set, the Bobcats stayed even with Broncs early on.

Allison Leigh’s three early kills in the set kept the score even at six. The Broncs then went on a 6-0 run to open up their lead. Quinnipiac had seven errors on the set, including four from Tanner Celestin. Rider eventually won the set 25-17. Rider’s Kayla Wong led the Broncs with four kills on the set.

The Bobcats brought the Broncs deep into the second set with a close score. Katie Urycki came in after sitting the first set out and led the team alongside Cheyenne Orsi. The score was even at 16 and at 21, but the Broncs pulled away with a 25-23 win. Leigh led the Bobcats on the set with six kills, and Jaclyn Webber led Rider with seven kills.

The Bobcats came out strong to open up the third set. After opening up with a 5-2 lead, Rider came back and locked it up at nine. Orsi and Celestin led a charge by the Bobcats to get a 14-9 lead. Quinnipiac didn’t look back for the rest of the set, and captured a 25-22 win. Freshman Sierra Dawson tallied up 13 assists in the set.

Quinnipiac kept the momentum going to begin the fourth set. Going up 4-1 to start, and eventually 12-5, the Bobcats were taking advantage of the Broncs errors and two serve aces from Urycki. Following a timeout called by Rider, Quinnipiac lost momentum and began making errors. Despite Celestin’s four kills, the Bobcats ended up losing the set 25-20.

Celestin and Orsi led the squad with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Dawson came up with 41 assists.

Quinnipiac is back in action Tuesday night as it faces Hartford at Burt Kahn Court.
