Tech ‘n’ trends: The latest tech toys out this season

We have all heard about the new fall fashion trends, but this season the hottest looks are not limited to clothing. Technology is becoming one of the most popular accessories a student can have.

With a whole crop of new gizmos and gadgets being released this fall, it is becoming easier for students to stay in touch and stay connected with the most popular media.

It is difficult to go through a day on campus without seeing someone with an iPod attached to their ear. In the last few years, Apple has transformed the way people view MP3 players and download music. iPods come anywhere from the original 60GB player holding 15,000 songs to the iPod shuffle which can hold 240 – 120 songs depending on the size. Now Apple is coming out with the iPod nano, the smallest iPod to date.

Available in 4GB which holds 1,000 songs and 2GB which holds 500 songs the nano is 0.27 inches thick and weighs only 1.5 ounces. Pencil thin, it has a color display screen and is podcast and audio book capable and has a 14 hour battery. The 2GB is only $199.00 4GB is only $249.00. Both are available in black or white with free engraving.

Is it hard to find the time to sit and read some of your school books? Victoria Johnson, a senior education major, uses iTunes to download books from Apple’s Web site right onto her iPod.

“It makes it really easy for me to just listen to my readings while I’m at the gym or at work, instead of having to read the actual book,” Johnson said.

Students can now listen to music and books pretty much anywhere. If you don’t have an iPod, you can still get in on the downloading action.

Cingular just came out with the first phone that is equipped with iTunes, the “MotoRokr”. All you have to do is connect your phone to your computer and you can put up to 100 songs onto your phone. You can shuffle songs, select an artist or playlist all with the iTunes key on the phone.

Listen to songs with the phone’s speakers or from the included ear buds. You can pause the music when a call comes in, and the song will play again automatically once you hang up. You can even listen to music while browsing the internet, sending and receiving messages, or while taking pictures. The phone is a steep $249.99 with a two year contract and is available from www.Cingular.com or at any Cingular retailer.

This season one of the most technologically advanced video games will be available. The Xbox 360 is one of the most anticipated new game consoles this year.

Xbox 360 allows you to play your favorite games in a stunning 720p and 1080i resolution in 16:9 widescreen for smooth, movie-like graphics and multi-channel surround sound.

Games will also be able to play games, watch DVDs, and listen to digital music, view photos and videos in High Definition. This system hits retailers on Tuesday, Nov. 22, and will come in a “Core System” with a price of $299.99 or the $399.99 “Premium Edition” that comes with HD capabilities and accessories such as a detachable 20 GB hard drive and wireless controller and headset.
