    QU Democrats back on campus

The Quinnipiac University Democrats is a student organization that is re-emerging on campus this year to let student’s get involved in our government. Absent since 1996, this organization wants to spread and promote the philosophies of democracy as well as get the news out about Democratic candidates.

The organization is geared towards students who have a political opinion and feel they donot have an outlet to turn to on campus, and for students who are looking for a way to get more involved in the political world.

Re-founder, Brian Salerno, saw that the Quinnipiac University Republicans were still running on campus and wondered why there weren’t any organizations for members of the Democratic Party.

He wanted there to be another outlet for students to become more interested in politics, as well as have another major party represented on campus. He was then able to re-start the Quinnipiac University Democrats.

The Q.U Democrats want to get more college students involved in the political process especially since politics are becoming increasingly important in the world we are living in. Members feel it is important to get Quinnipiac students more aware of what is going on in politics.

Through voting registration drives, the organization will try to promote voting for all parties, not just Democratic parties.

Members feel this is a good time to re-initiate the group because it is a time when people are becoming more interested in politics. The organization is offering an opportunity for students to have their opinions expresses and a place where they can get involved to make a difference.

Since they have just reformed, the Q.U Democrats are looking for volunteers to serve as officers for the up coming year, as well as new members to come and join the organization. Their monthly meetings will start up in the fall.

The QU Democrats is also seeking a new faculty advisor for next semester in addition to dedicated students who are interested in volunteering for 3 vacant officer positions.

“It is important for college age people to get involved in shaping the political landscape of our country. We have one of the lowest voter groups, and if we do not vote our opinions will not get heard,” said Salerno.
