New Road accident shuts down Mount Carmel campus

New Road accident shuts down Mount Carmel campus

An accident on New Road that occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. today caused electric and gas power to fail in several buildings on the Mount Carmel campus. University offices were closed and classes cancelled until 2 p.m. today due to the loss of power.

The driver of the car was a 56-year-old Woodbury resident who, according to a Hamden police press release, suffered a medical condition, became unconscious, and struck the utility pole, which caused the campus power outage.

The man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

According to John Morgan, associate vice president for Public Affairs, the Mount Carmel Dining Hall is currently running on generator power and is still open and accessible. The shuttle services are running uninterrupted.
