Several of America’s most beloved idols and renowned performers owned the stage during “VH1 Divas,” hosted by former “American Idol” judge and current hot mess, Paula Abdul. The event took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House on Sept. 17.

Abdul opened the show performing a medley of her most popular songs, including “Opposites Attract” and “Straight Up.” Despite Paula’s poor lip synching and quick stumble during her dancing, she is still as loveable as always. And, as an introduction, she humorously greeted the audience with a proper “I’m Paula Abdul, and this is not American Idol.” It is clear the celeb remains in good spirits despite her recent replacement as a judge on “Idol.”

Later on in the show, Abdul harmlessly mocked Ellen DeGeneres while dancing on stage in a black suit, short blonde wig and Chuck Taylors. She then addressed DeGeneres saying, “Nothing but love.Congrats on your new gig.”

“American Idol” fans everywhere must have been in their glory to see Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks all appearing on one stage. In regards to the idols’ accomplishments and rise to fame, Paula said, “I feel like a proud mama.” After all, she has witnessed their talents from the very beginning and seen the women transform into forces to be reckoned with.

First, Jennifer Hudson performed “Spotlight,” showing off her powerful pipes– an appropriate opening act to a night filled with such great talent and entertainment.

Kathy Griffin then joined Paula on stage to introduce Kelly Clarkson’s performance. Clarkson seemed truly grateful for all her success since having been crowned the inaugural winner of “American Idol” in 2002.

“You’re so busy with your work, you’re in love with it,” Clarkson said.

Clarkson delivered a moving performance of her new single “Already Gone,” while looking stunning and confident as always.

Next, Keri Hilson and Corbin Bleu made an appearance to present Jordin Sparks’ performance of “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play).” It is astounding that the youngest winner in “American Idol” history, at the ripe age of 19, has such amazing stage presence and powerful vocals.

British singer Adele, was introduced. She humbly admitted that her music was created merely to get a boy out of her system. Her pain then evolved when she realized so many other people and millions of fans were going through the same experience. Her soothing vocals were ever present during an excellent rendition of her song “Hometown Glory.” Her emotion and her soul go into every note she let out.

It was then Leona Lewis’ turn to impress the audience with her new single “Happy.” Lewis has a stunning vocal range, and her performance definitely earned her the title of “diva.” Soon after, Lewis came back on stage for a second round, this time with Cyndi Lauper. The two performed the song “True Colors”-an unexpected pairing. However, Lauper and Lewis perfectly complemented one another, bringing the song back to life.

Furthermore, five cast members from the upcoming movie, “Fame,” introduced Miley Cyrus’ performance of “Party in the U.S.A.” A little young to be considered a diva, Cyrus still proved her talents when she sang later on in the show with rocker Sheryl Crow to Crow’s hit, “If It Makes You Happy.” Although Cyrus may have slightly overdone it while singing alongside Crow, she did a respectable job considering she was among so many seasoned performers during the evening.

Another shocking combination was Jordin Sparks and Martina McBride. Nevertheless, both singers sounded wonderful together during their duet of “Broken Wing.” Sparks even sang the song during “Country Week” when she was on “American Idol.” So, the song choice was very appropriate.

Jennifer Hudson then got her defining moment, as she was able to perform with her idol, Stevie Wonder, the song “All is Fair in Love.” The two were absolutely brilliant and inspiring.

Lastly, Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port introduced the final performance of the evening. Kelly Clarkson reappeared on stage to sing with her favorite rocker, Melissa Etheridge. It was a fabulous way to end the night-with two very soulful and gifted individuals just having a good time entertaining the crowd.

VH1’s concert was an excellent culmination of talent from all generations and musical genres. It was an enjoyable experience for the entertainment buff in all of us.
