The men’s lacrosse team traveled to Columbus, Ohio to compete against Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) rival Ohio State on Saturday, March 28. Jack Oppenheimer and Ted Dimond were the lone scorers for the Bobcats. The loss drops them to 2-6 on the year and 0-2 in the GWLL, while the win improves the Buckeyes to 5-4 on season and 1-0 in the GWLL.
Ohio State got on the board first thanks to a goal from Justin Hayes, assisted by Mario Ventiquattro. Ventiquattro then scored a goal of his own; this one a wrap-around goal to put the Buckeyes up 2-0. Ohio State made it 3-0 thanks to a goal by Jeff Ryan.
It wasn’t until nearly halftime that Quinnipiac got on the board, when Oppenheimer bounced one past Ohio State’s Brandon Freeman to bring the score to 3-1.
The Buckeyes came out in the second half and added three more goals to give them a 6-1 cushion. Ohio State’s Dan Bain scored first, Brock Sorensen added a goal, and Ventiquattro found Eddie Bambino in front of the net to put the Buckeyes up by five.
With 13 minutes left in the game, Dimond received a pass from Alex DeAlmeida and beat Freeman one-on-one for Quinnipiac’s second goal. A minute later, Ohio State’s Hayes found Mike Pires for the goal and then Joel Dalgorno added another goal to bring the Buckeyes lead to six. And that’s the way it ended, as Ohio State won 8-2.
The Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse team returns to action against Denver, Saturday, April 4, at the Quinnipiac Turf and Lacrosse Field at 1 p.m.
