QU raises $3,500 for Lukemia Society

On Friday, Sept. 21, 125 students and staff members from Quinnipiac walked three miles for the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society. This national fundraising event brought in $3,500 from Quinnipiac. It was the most successful year so far.
The journey began at the Light House Park in New Haven where walkers paid $25 to carry a red and white balloon to honor those lives lost to cancer. Many ofthe students who participated had their own experiences with the disease. Some individuals had success stories to share, while others walked for lost loved ones.
Joe Bowman, a junior political science major, walked in Friday’s event to help individuals like himself. Bowman was diagnosed with cancer his senior year of high school. Fortunately Bowman was able to battle the disease successfully. To help out, he arranged tables outside and inside the student center to collect donations for the walk. In addition, he and other staff members and students went to residence halls to collect money for the cause.
All of the proceeds will go toward finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease, and myeloma.
