Sophomore defenseman Elliott Groenewold and freshman forward Ethan Wyttenbach were named ECAC Best Defensive Defenseman Finalist and ECAC Rookie of the Year Finalist, respectively, in the past two days, per Quinnipiac Athletics Instagram.
In his second campaign in Hamden, Groenewold posted an impressive +39 plus-minus rating, marking the highest rating in the NCAA since 2003, this far into the season. The Springfield, Vt. native also leads the ECAC in plus-minus rating, with a +28 in league play.
Groenewold has been a key anchor on the Bobcats’ defense this season, leading the team with 45 blocked shots in 38 games played.
Wyttenbach has become a household name among college hockey fans nationwide, leading the country with 58 points in 38 games, averaging 1.53 points per game.
The Roslyn, N.Y. native sits one point away from breaking Quinnipiac’s single-season points record, while previously breaking the program’s first-year Division I single-season scoring record Feb. 27.
Wyttenbach was also named a 2026 ECAC Player of the Year Finalist per Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey’s Instagram.
