Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey continues to show out in the ECAC Awards, as All-ECAC selections junior forward Kahlen Lamarche and sophomore defenseman Makayla Watson were named finalists for the ECAC Forward of the Year and ECAC Defender of the Year award, respectively.
The Sudbury, Ontario native, Lamarche, leads the NCAA in goals with 42 and leads the ECAC in points, with 60.
“Scoring goals gives me confidence to go out and play my game, making plays kind of gives me confidence,” Lamarche said. “I think it’s a testament to all my hard work that I’ve put in throughout the years.”
The Bobcat’s top defender, Watson, has also been crucial to the team’s success. Despite injury sidelining Watson since Feb. 7 during Quinnipiac’s contest against Dartmouth, the Brooks, Alberta native remains sixth in the ECAC in defensive scoring and second on the team.
It’s been a full team initiative to replace Watson’s offensive presence on the Bobcat blue line.
“(The defense) are trying to find the offense that we don’t have right now, not having Watty (Watson),” head coach Cass Turner said.
Both announcements came six days after sophomore forward Felicia Frank was named the MAC Goaltending ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Year.
