A new student club, QU Runway, was designed for students to learn about fashion and encourage expressiveness through their clothes and style.
The starting members launched their club with an Instagram post on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
To start the club, Sydney Klass, junior media studies major and president of QU Runway, met with Jahmil Effend, the associate director of student engagement. Effend helped her to create a constitution and register the club on Bobcat Central, after she found other founders.
Klass believes that fashion is a way to express oneself and their creativity.
Before QU Runway, Quinnipiac did not have an outlet for students interested in fashion.
The organization now provides a space where students can share their interest in fashion, learn about trends, and participate in exercises that are centered on personal style.
“I started this club because, to my surprise, we didn’t have a fashion club on campus already,” Klass said. “I’ve always loved the fashion industry and the way that clothes make people feel confident. I’m big on self expression, I love that fashion and clothing can help people to express their creativity.”
The club’s officers are Klass as the president, Vice President third-year psychology major Sarina Christenson, Treasurer second-year history Josh Parr, Secretary second-year media studies major Katarina Dewitt and Public Relations Chair third-year public relations major Thalia Padilla.
Dewitt explained her love for fashion, describing it to be “an outlet for self-expression.”
Before this club was introduced, there was no place for students to show off their love for fashion.
Now, there is a place for all Quinnipiac students to express themselves and learn more about their style.
The price of clothes does not matter as Christenson loves to thrift and recycle clothes to make new fashionable outfits.
The goal for QU Runway is to make the club accessible to all students, no matter their major, background or experience with the fashion world.
Meetings will highlight ways to engage in fashion, including how to repurpose clothing.
With a new structured space for students to connect through style, QU runway adds another great aspect to student life at Quinnipiac and offers opportunities for involvement beyond academics and athletics.
