Students hit the books as finals approach

It’s almost that time of year again. Birds are singing, the weather is warm, the beach is calling…and it’s time for final exams. This year, finals week is May 7-11, and many Quinnipiac students are already preparing for it.

Most students are spending these last few weeks of school preparing for final exams, but the way they prepare differs from person to person. Depending on the class, students study for different amounts of time for different exams.

Junior media production major Gael Fitzsimons said she studies a lot. “I study for a long time,” she said. “Four or five hours, depending on the class.”

Some students prepare for their tests at the last minute, while others like to study weeks before their exams.

Junior media studies major Jessica Axt said that she usually studies the night before the test because it has become a habit.

“It really depends on how hard the course is and how well I have to do on the exam,” she said. “But I usually study the night before for a few hours.”

Junior Nick Bougades also studies the night before. “I get really stressed out and study as much as I can,” he said. “As much as I should have been studying all semester.

The method of studying differs from student to student. While junior criminal justice major Craig Adler said that he likes silence while studying, senior broadcast journalism major Kevin Sokolski said, “I enjoy listening to music because it helps me to focus and I won’t be distracted by outside noises.”

Others eat and drink to keep them going. “I can’t survive studying without coffee,” Fitzsimons said.

With exams right around the corner, students seem to be getting extra friendly with the Arnold Bernhard library, undoubtedly the most popular place to study. Residence halls, the law library and study lounges are also filling up with diligent students.

So swing by Starbucks for some coffee and a snack, pull up a seat wherever you can find one and start cracking the books because finals will be here in just a few weeks.
