Chronicle guide to the SGA candidates

SGA President:

Ross Greenstein

I feel I am the best candidate for the position of Student Government President. I am very involved in many aspects of life on campus including SGA, Greek Life, Business Student Leadership Council, attending student events, or just hanging out in the dorms. This allows me to know many students with many different backgrounds and preferences. I have a good idea of the needs and wants of the student body and I can lead Student Government to help satisfy them. I can also properly express these issues to the Board of Trustees to see real results and am not afraid to ask the tough questions.

This year I have worked hard to make known what SGA can do for students and to make us a reliable resource. I ran the monthly Whine and Dine where I would actively approach students for their concerns and publicize the resolutions to their issues in the cafe. I helped organize a forum to discuss the school’s judicial system and then met with Res Life to get answers to student’s questions. I will work hard for the students because after all, I am a student. Please elect me as your Student Body President. Thank you.

Steve Kline

Hello, My name is Steve Kline and I am running for Student Government President. I believe that I would be the best person for the position of Student Government President because I have numerous past experiences that will help the students’ voice be heard. Over the last two years, I have served on three committees of the Student Government: Student Awareness Committee, the Public Relations Committee, and the Finance Committee. I am a reliable, open-minded, and passionate individual who is not afraid of taking the initiative. I feel that above all, my role as President is to take a pro-active role to ensure that the student voice is being heard at all levels of the university. To complete this goal, I cannot do it alone and therefore my challenge will be to motivate the other members of Student Government and the Student Body to make certain that the student voice is heard. Hello, my name is Danielle Dempsey. I am running for Vice President of Public Relations. This position requires an individual who is well qualified, who is not afraid to challenge and work with the administration, students and the town of Hamden. I have been on Student Government for two years, and I know I am well qualified and ready to fulfill this position in the best way possible. In voting for me, you will see all that will be accomplished through new ideas, perspectives and actions.

Kristen McGuire

My name is Kristen McGuire and I am running for Vice President of Public Relations. I am extremely dedicated to Quinnipiac, and more importantly, the student body. My experience in SGA and my personal experiences have prepared me well for this position, and I have maintained relationships with other students, organizations, faculty, staff and administration.

As VP of PR, increasing the accessibility of SGA would be a goal of mine. It is important that the student body at Quinnipiac has the ability to have its voice heard, and to do so students need to feel comfortable approaching their representatives. I strongly feel that student involvement in SGA is important and that the more accessible SGA is, and the more involved students are with it, the better off the Quinnipiac student body will be. A positive relationship between Quinnipiac and Hamden is also important, and I would like to see SGA and the student body more avidly involved in the Hamden Community – service wise, as well as spirit wise- to try to achieve this. We need our town to be proud of our university – we as students need to show our pride for Quinnipiac and let it spill into the community.

Wendy Wei

My name is Wendy Wei and I am currently a Junior. I am running for the position of Vice President of Public Relations for my senior year. I served on Quinnipiac’s Student Government Association for three years as a representative Freshmen year, and Class President my Sophomore and Junior years.

The position of VP of Public Relations has come a long way and I continue to take it further if elected. According to the PRSA (Public Relations Society of America), public relations are defined as a practice that “Helps an organization and its publics adapt mutually to each other.” I am also a Public Relations major which I believe is important because I have learned what true Public Relations is. Serving on student government for my third year now, I feel that I am ready to take on an executive board position.

Jennifer Rosenbaum

This past year I was able to serve the Junior Class and work with other members of the Student Government Association, as well as various members of the faculty, administration and most importantly the students as the Vice President of the class of 2007. Becoming one of the most senior members on SGA I hope to serve the student body as Vice President of Student Concerns. Essentially I hope to challenge myself in working with many individuals in improving the overall quality of student’s time here at Quinnipiac. If elected I plan to work diligently and effectively in this position as I advocate for the students. I hope to bring SAC to the next level with students and hope it becomes more of a “household” name when in search of a remedy for whatever problems the students may encounter. I hope next semester we can work together in achieving our goals. Thank you for your consideration.

Dee Mastronardi

Having been a part of the Student Planning Board since my first semester here at Quinnipiac I have always envisioned myself one day taking on the responsibilities of the Vice President. I have been dedicated to the organization since day one, always thoroughly enjoying planning and executing the events that happen each week on campus. Having the opportunity to serve on the Executive Board last year as the Programming Assistant, I was able to manage and organize SPB’s substantial budget. I was fortunate enough to serve on the Student Government Association as a freshman and sophomore representative, which provided me with the proper knowledge and experience needed to serve as the Vice President of Programming.

I hope to one day possess a career in event planning and know that holding this position will enable me to gain phenomenal experience in this field.

I am, and have always been, extremely passionate about this organization. I am confident that I would be able to lead SPB through a productive and successful year by bringing fresh ideas and events to this campus for the QU community to enjoy.

Joey Vines

I want to continue as your Vice President of Finance because I love what I’m doing. We have made great strides this year in the face of a lot of adversity and fostered relationships that must continue. As the only Junior member of the Executive board this year, it is imperative that we have someone on eboard next year that is familiar with administration and knows how things work. I haven’t been perfect over the last year, but I have shown the dedication it takes to lead this organization. Thank you for your participation and I would appreciate a vote.

Senior Class President:

Justin Algarin

Hello, my name is Justin Algarin and I’m running for senior class president. I live in Hill 33B. The traits that qualify me for this position are my communication skills, outgoing personality, and my trustworthiness. In my five semesters at Quinnipiac, I’ve worked hard and it has been reflected by the fact that I was on Dean’s list consecutively. After the experience of one full year on SGA, I know what it takes to lead a class into the future. Finally, if elected I will put all my efforts in the improvement of the school and the 2006-2007 senior class.

Lauren Schwab

As Senior Class President I feel I could follow in the footsteps of the previous senior cabinets, picking up where they left off. By fostering cohesiveness among the cabinet, we will be able to spend our last year at Quinnipiac focusing on accomplishing our goals and implementing the tasks necessary to achieve a smooth transition into the next year. As seniors it is our last chance to make an impact on the University, and that is why Schwab will do the job!

Kat Swift

As the current voice of the students in the Board of Trustees position, I want to be re-elected as a Board of Trustees Student Representative. In this position, I have been influencing and giving input about issues to the heads of Quinnipiac who make important financial and changing decisions affecting the student body. Decisions such tuition increases and getting the new HUB Athletic Center up and running need a student to voice the concerns of all of us. I will make sure the BOT knows what the students want and how the students will be affected by their decisions. I will hold them accountable for making sure they are doing what is best for us. Also important to me is being elected President of my class. I know how to do what is best for the Class of 2007 and QU community, such as improving school spirit. After working on SGA for the past three years, I am eager to continue my work in the next year, so vote KAT SWIFT FOR PRESIDENT and BOARD OF TRUSTEES, and give yourselves a break.

Board of Trustees:

Tom Fritz

The Board of Trustees is the highest level of decision making for the entire campus. It deals with issues of tuition, university planning and long term goals for the university. It is important that the person elected to this position is knowledgeable in all aspects of the university, academics, student affairs and campus issues. My name is Tom Fritz, and I am running for the voting member of the Board of Trustees. I have been highly involved in Student Programming Board for two years, and I am on the executive board this year. I am also the president of Tau Kappa Epsilon. While I don’t have any experience as an elected member of Student Government, I have been attending all of the SGA meetings this semester as well as the Student Awareness Committee meetings. The Board of Trustees needs a level-headed, charismatic person that is not afraid to address issues that matter to the students. I know that I will be that level head. Seniors face entirely different issues that require skilled leaders. Not only do I possess these skills after having served on numerous leadership training staffs on the National and local levels, but I have another quality that no other candidate has. For three years I’ve worked for Quinnipiac as the Program Assistant for off campus students. My job is to look out for the interests of all off campus students, including seniors. No other candidate has a better understanding of your off campus needs. If you expect proper representation next year, you need someone who actually knows what you need.

Christina Pimentel

I’m running for Vice President of the class of 2007. During the last three years at Quinnipiac, I’ve been involved in campus life and have held various leadership positions. I have a good understanding of student concerns and needs. I’m also looking to promote student rights and strengthen the relationship between the student body and administration. I would like to continue to work to make the transition for juniors moving off campus next year more pleasant by letting your views be heard. I would be honored to serve as your senior class Vice President.

Lisa Jordan

Hello, my name is Lisa Jordan and I am running for the position of Junior class President. I served this past year as your Vice President, if elected I would continue my efforts to hear what my peers want and produce results. Being on Student Government these past years has given me the opportunity and experience I needed to learn how to be a professional leader and get tasks accomplished. Steve Altmann

I was president of my student body in high school, and I was on SGA our freshmen year. I want to serve on SGA because I want to have a voice with regards to the future of our campus. I have a lot of great ideas for events and improvements that I would like to implement, please elect me so that I can have a chance to do it. Also, voting for me will mean that you are 2/3 less likely to contract food poisoning in the Rat, and 1/8 less likely to slip on goose poo on the quad.

John Rizzo

Hi, my name is John Rizzo and I’m running for the position of Junior Class Vice President. I have red hair and I consider myself a minority. Red heads are rarely found. Think of some of your favorite well know stars, how many have natural red hair? Exactly! Not too many. In reality, we’re all minorities. We’re all different and unique in our own ways but now it’s time to come together as a majority and select someone who is well-qualified and responsible, someone like myself. I am willing to represent Quinnipiac and most of all, the class of 2008.

My name is Christina Valvano and I’m running for Junior Class Vice President. As a representative of the sophomore class this year, I am chair of the semi-formal committee in addition to working with the other sophomore class members to put into action a student judiciary board. I am an organized and dedicated individual who is devoted to helping out the members of her class. I would love to be elected this year as vice president. My name is Suesan Ziegler, and I am running for Junior Class Vice President. I am currently a sophomore Class Representative, Panhellenic Delegate for Alpha Chi Omega, an Orientation Leader, and involved in Hillel, all while being an engaged student in the business school. I am eager to continue working with administration and serve as the communication link from them to you and vice versa. I am very outgoing and excited to represent you, the Class of 2008; it would be an honor to serve as your Junior Vice President.

Michael Bohmerwald

I feel that I am the most qualified candidate because I am an extremely dedicated individual. I have a drive inside me that wants to do everything, and be as involved as possible. While wanted to do everything I believe that work comes before fun, and I take my schoolwork and organizations very seriously. On campus I am a member of the Investment Club, Move in crew, and hold many positions in Sigma Phi Epsilon. With my experiences in life, and while at Quinnipiac I feel that I would be a great asset to the Student Government Association for 2006-2007.

Ali Marsh

Hi, I am Ali Marsh and I am running for Junior Class Representative. As representative of our class this year, I worked with the other members you elected on the judicial system and am currently still working on that. Furthermore, I have dorm stormed to make sure that your concerns and ideas are heard by the administration. My goal is to make the administration who has already heard your concerns, do something to address your concerns. Jason Caplin

Hi, I’m Jason Caplin and I am currently the freshmen class president, and am running to be re-elected as class president for our sophomore year. I have worked strenuously to improve your experience at Quinnipiac, and I will continue to do so. Under my leadership, our class’s cabinet has been extremely successful, and I would like to continue to help out. I want to be there for you, the students, when you have concerns or issues; I want to help solve them to make your time here more enjoyable and care free. I am a freshmen class representative. As your elected representative I met with administration, planned three class events, and served on other university committees all to better our class. Freshmen year was successful; it is my goal to make our sophomore year the best. I am now running for class president to inspire all ten members of the sophomore class cabinet to be dedicated to their positions. The cabinet owes it to our class to never stop working. Meg Craver

As stated on the Quinnipiac website, the purpose of the Student Government Association is to “promote student welfare, supervise student organizations and support the social aspects of college life by encouraging and sponsoring social activities.” I, Meg Craver, strongly believe in the power and importance of these principles. As Vice President of the Class of 2009, I would like to exemplify these aspects of the organization. My involvement on student government in high school has provided me with a solid background for this position. If I were to be granted this opportunity as Vice President of the Class of 2009.

Dan Schwartz

My name is Daniel Schwartz and I am running for Sophomore Class Vice President. I believe I am more then qualified for this position because I was the Freshmen Vice President this year. I have learned the ins and outs of Student Government and have made many connections with faculty and administration. I was the only freshmen sent to the Conference of Student Government Associations this year to represent Quinnipiac University’s Student Government. I am dedicated to my class, and always put a lot of heart into everything I do. Let me represent YOU for another year.

Jason Bond

My name is Jason Bond and I am running for Sophomore Class Representative. I am proud to be a Quinnipiac student and it will be privilege to represent my class. There are a few things about life at Quinnipiac that need attention. The price of drinks at the vending machines needs to be lowered. There aren’t enough laundry machines, especially when a couple are broken, and they are kind of expensive. There are of course lots more issues to be addressed, and I will be a representative who listens to your concerns and acts on your behalf.

Andy Clark

I’m running for re-election as a Sophomore Representative on SGA. After serving for a year I bring experience which will make me a more effective member. This year I along with the freshmen cabinet represented you in many different ways, whether it was speaking to administrators about housing issues or programming enjoyable events tailored for our class. We have three more years here and I want to make them unforgettable! I am committed to our class and with your help will be able to continue to lead us in the right direction. I am Heather D’Amico and I am running for Class Representative on the Student Government Association. Not only do I truly want this position, I feel I also have quite a bit of experience. Besides serving as a representative for my high school class government for four years, I also served as class secretary for three years. I have helped organize events such as, community days, class barbecues, charity events and even talent shows. I enjoyed so much being an active part of my last educational environment and I would love to be as involved if not more at Quinnipiac.

Shane Jones

When I decided to run for the position of Sophomore Representative it was more because at that time I was looking to become more involved in the activities of this school. Today, that is still the case, but in addition I would like to do this so that my ideas, time, and creativity can be contributed. I am not going to making promises that I probably will not fulfill, because no one ever seem to anyways, but I will say that if elected I will strive to give the same one hundred percent that I give on my studies.

Genna Kornweiser

My name is Genna Kornweiser and I am running for Sophomore Class Representative. If elected, I will attempt to resolve the many on-campus concerns. I am currently involved in Emerging Leaders, Hillel, and hold a job in the Student Center.

In high school I was a member of Student Council, the literary magazine, and SADD. I have volunteered my time as a camp counselor for children with cancer, as a clerical assistant, and at my local youth center. I helped collect prom dresses for underprivileged girls. I am dedicated, hard-working, and eager to help better our academic and social lives.

Stacey Lembo

My name is Stacey Lembo and I am running for the position of Sophomore Class Representative. I would like to obtain this position in the Student Government because I would like to serve as a connecting voice from my peers to the Student Government. I am dedicated, devoted, and responsible. I have served on the Executive Cabinet in my high school and it is something I am very passionate about. I would to continue this at Quinnipiac University, so remember vote for Stacey Lembo. Alyssa Mosley

I should be re-elected as your Sophomore Representative because consistency is the key to any successful group. You want someone who already knows the ins and outs of SGA and can get right back into the swing of things. Also, I already know the goals we need to focus on and I have many new ideas to contribute to our cabinet for next year. I know when it’s time to step up and lead a group, but I also know when it’s time to listen. In addition, I will do everything possible to give our student body what they want.

Although listing my leadership skills and the things I will do if elected are important factors in running for sophomore representative, being receptive and open minded is just as important. I’m approachable and friendly. When you come to me with your ideas, I want you to feel as if you were talking to one of your friends. Although it will be our second year at Quinnipiac, we are still all getting used to this place. Everyone can use someone to help them feel at home, I can be that girl. I am interested in being a Sophomore Class Representative for the Student Government Association because it’s an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of Quinnipiac University. As a freshman class representative, I had the experience of making a difference in students’ lives by voicing their concerns and working with the Student Government to find solutions to problems. I possess characteristics that I believe will add value to the important work of the SGA. I have great time management skills and I am determined. Once I set my mind toward achieving goals, I won’t allow anything to get in my way.

I’ve learned a lot this semester being in SGA. Since joining SGA, the needs of the student body, specifically the class of 2009, have become a priority of mine. It is very important to be accessible to the students and listen to their voices. I will continue to do my best to fulfill this duty. Hi, my name is Katelynn Rourke and I am running for sophomore class representative. I am currently a freshman representative and a co-on and off campus chair of the Public Relations committee. Over the past year, I helped organize and run the freshmen talent show and 3 on 3 basketball tournament. I helped create an on campus housing packet and an off campus housing packet. Also, I am one of the two people in charge of Whine and Dine. If re-elected, I will continue to best represent our class and make our time here one that we will never forget!

Hi, I’m Allison Vajda. I’m a public relations major from Massachusetts. Throughout high school, I was a member of my school’s student council. At Quinnipiac, I have become a member of the Student Programming Board and am actively involved on the concert and special events committees. Recently, I was selected as an Orientation Leader for this summer’s freshman orientation. I believe I should be a representative because I am a hard-working people person.
