Wonder what’s up with the Christmas trees in the Student Center the past few weeks?
The paper ornaments are more than just a decoration. The holiday season is here once again and one Quinnipiac student is doing something extra to show that she cares.
Junior Public Relations major, Jocelyn DeBlois runs a fundraiser to the campus called the Angel Tree.
The Angel Tree is a fundraiser in which each individual tag has a wish from a child in the greater New Haven area who will not be receiving any gifts for the holidays.
Students can pick up a tag with wishes ranging from dolls to dresses, and from video games to reading tutorial games. The fundraiser was brought to QU last year by DeBlois and her boyfriend, graduate David Blanchard. It is run through the Albert Schweitzer Institute and cosponsored by CAP.
Along with running the Angel Tree fundraiser, DeBlois is an active member in the Albert Schweitzer Institute. Being a part of the Humanitarian Values Committee, which is one of Schweitzer’s theologies, DeBlois has been a part of the Alternative Spring Break trips for the past two years. This year, DeBlois, along with other QU students, will be traveling to Nicaragua on a mission to teach underprivileged citizens of that country agricultural techniques to provide more food for their families and to educate them about the importance of healthy eating.
“From the very beginning, I fell in love with the ideals,” DeBlois said of the Institute.
The Angel Tree will be accepting unwrapped gifts with tags attached until Dec. 10.
