Track sets for outdoors

The Quinnipiac men’s track program hopes to stride toward success, despite the lack of a sprint and field events team.

The Bobcats are ranked to finish sixth in the Northeast Conference, NEC, and they hope to take the momentum from one of the most successful indoor seasons in school history.

Head Coach Shawn Green believes that this year’s squad certainly has the potential to do some amazing things on the track, as well as even breaking more school records.

The team finished sixth at the NEC championships last indoor season. “We have just as many opportunities to score points this outdoor season,” Green said.

Leading the way in more ways than one is senior Tom Martin. Although he had a successful indoor season, Martin’s specialty is the 3,000 meter steeple chase, an event that only takes place outdoors.

“Tom is a definite conference favorite in the steeple chase,” Green said. “From a leadership perspective, and as a runner, he is a valuable aspect to this team.”

Another goal of Martin’s is to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships, a recently added meet.

Sophomore Jeffrey Roginielewicz is another runner that Green thinks can repeat his amazing indoor season. Roginielewicz finished second in both the 3,000 meter and the 5,000 meter events earning him second team all conference honors in both events. He also set school records in both events. “Jeffrey is on place to run some really amazing times this season,” Green said.
