Radio personality Ryan Seacrest offers new breed

For television and radio personality Ryan Seacrest, multitasking is just a part of his daily routine.

As if juggling hosting duties on the hit FOX reality series “American Idol,” broadcasting the nationally syndicated “American Top 40” weekly radio program were not enough, Seacrest has surpassed the one month mark on his daily talk show, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest.”

Aired locally at 5 p.m. weekdays on UPN, “On Air” dares to be different than its fellow news and entertainment programs, namely MTV’s “Total Request Live,” by promoting a fan interactivity not normally seen on television.

Filmed in front of a live audience in Los Angeles, the show includes celebrity interviews, musical performances, and often sends fans from the audience and across the country to movie premieres and special events like the Grammy Awards.

In the spirit of taking fans where they have never been before, Seacrest’s show invited pop princess Britney Spears to appear on the program last week, her first televised musical performance and interview of 2004.

Spears performed her hit “Toxic” in a free concert to a crowd outside the “On Air” studio, located at the Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex in Los Angeles.

Fan interactivity is a concept “On Air” strives to promote, and allows fans to meet and spend time with their favorite celebrities as part of a segment of the show where the fan records their experiences to be broadcast on the program at a later date.

Celebrity news is dished out by former recording artist Rosanna Tavarez, of the now defunct Eden’s Crush pop group. Tavarez offers a refreshing break from the daily celebrity interviews, and provides an actual news aspect to the entertainment program.

Viewers can take part in “On Air” through the wonders of modern technology, as the program employs instant messaging, email and text messaging (in conjunction with partner AT&T Wireless) to bring fans from across the country together with Seacrest.

Music and television fans can witness the synergy of Seacrest’s new program, when comedian Anthony Anderson, “The Bachelorette’s” Trista and Ryan Sutter and new band Switchfoot will be featured on the show in the next few weeks.
