College life can be very expensive. After going out, shopping and ordering food students can end up spending a lot of money. Most students find it necessary to get a job in order for them to continue living their previous lifestyles.
For students who need to get a job on campus, the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute is a good place to work.
One does not need a car to get there since it is located on New Road and they hire all students, even those who do not have work study.
At the Polling Institute, one can be a telephone interviewer. Students conduct important surveys about issues in the news that are then broadcasted through news radio and television.
They are looking for reliable students to conduct telephone interviews using CATI, a computer assisted telephone interviewing system.
For Students who have work study, there are many places on campus to apply.
Students who are into computers can work with the Student Technology Academic Resource (STAR) help desks. Students work with faculty to provide technical advice and classroom support.
They also help students at the help desk in Tator Hall or the STAR centers in the library. Students will get to work with programs such as Microsoft Office products and Blackboard.
Work study offers an opportunity for students to work with the Facilities Administration Department. Students can be Maintenance Assistants where they aid mechanics, grounds, and custodial staff in various activities.
This is a good opportunity for students who like to work outdoors, for they will be able to mow and rack the lawns, make deliveries, paint, change light bulbs, clean equipment, and assist staff in tasks.
Students have the oppertunity to work with the Educational Director at the Coordinator-Sail-Training Program. Students help with the marketing, fundraising, and scheduling of the sail-related activities.
They will learn valuable leadership skills by creating a budget and proper funding for the program as well as attaining corporate sponsorships, grant, and revenue proposals.
On the other hand for students who would prefer to get a job off campus there are many different options. Hamden has many different retail stores and restaurants where students can get jobs.
For places that the QU shuttle drops you off at, students should fill out applications at TGIF Friday’s and Bon Ton’s or Dee’s Cleaners, which are all currently hiring.
The best way to find a job in town is to simply go around and see what places are hiring. Once you fill out an application it is always good to call back a week or so after. This way it shows the employer that you are really interested in the job.
